eGift Certificates make giving the gift of language easy. Available in multiple denominations, they can be purchased online at and sent to anyone with a valid email address. If the recipient resides in the United States, the eGift Certificate is valid for any CD, Software, or MP3 product available on If the recipient resides outside of the United States, the eGift Certificate is valid on MP3 and Software products only.  



Once you add a product to your cart and checkout, you will have the option to mark any product as a Gift and select a recipient.  

  • For digital gifts, you will have the opportunity to provide the giftee's email address and write a custom message. We will then notify the giftee by email and provide all instructions to retrieve their digital gift.
  • For physical gifts (U.S.-only), you will have the opportunity to mark the product as a gift, include a personal message, and ship directly to the the gift recipient's address.

Q: How are the downloadable courses different from the CD version?

A: The downloadable version of the course is identical to the CD version including the Reading Lessons/Culture Notes. All printed booklets that normally come with the CD version are included with the download version in PDF format.

Q: Why are the prices for the downloadable courses so much less than the CD version?

A: Distributing courses in downloadable format eliminates much of the cost of manufacturing and handling physical CD sets. Those savings are passed on to our customers.

Q: What format do the downloadable courses come in, and do they have any DRM (Digital Rights Management)?

A: Our downloadable courses are in high quality, crystal clear, standard MP3 format and have no Digital Rights Management or license keys to deal with.

Q: How does the audio quality of the downloadable version compare to the CD version?

A: All downloadable Pimsleur courses have been carefully transferred to MP3 format from digital masters. You can expect "Near-CD quality."  Please keep in mind that audio quality can vary depending on the listening conditions and on the equipment.

Q: How much space do the downloadable courses take up on my hard drive or portable device? How long do the courses take to download?

A: The thirty lesson courses average 500MB each. Download times vary widely depending on your internet connection speed and other factors. Pimsleur Course Manager requires a minimum of 1.5GB free space on mobile devices and we recommend at least  10GB free space on desktop computers. On average you can expect a 30-lesson course to take anywhere from 15 minutes to 50 minutes (or longer in some cases). We recommend you use a high speed connection for downloading.

Q: Do I need to be connected to the Internet to play my Pimsleur lessons?

A: Once the lessons are downloaded to the app (Pimsleur Course Manager or Pimsleur Unlimited) then no internet connection is required to play the lessons. The lessons will play even if in Airplane Mode. The lessons can be downloaded via WiFi or via cellular data (Pimsleur Course Manager only, if enabled in the app settings).

Q: Can I download my course to several devices such as my computer and iPhone?

A: Yes, you can use your course on as many devices as you'd like for your personal use only.

Q: What devices is my downloaded course compatible with?

A: MP3 files are the standard audio format and fully compatible with Mac, Windows, and Linux computers.  MP3 files will also play on tablets, smartphones (including iPhones), and MP3 players such as iPods.

Q: Does Pimsleur have an App?

A: Yes, when you purchase our MP3 format course, you have the option of downloading the course using the Pimsleur Course Manager App, which is available for iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows devices.  

Q: What does the Pimsleur Course Manager App do?
With the Pimsleur Course Manager App, your course(s) are immediately available and neatly organized on any device you install the App.  And, you don’t have to worry about what lesson you are on, the App keeps track for you. Imagine not having to remember where in the middle of a lesson you had to stop unexpectedly.  
No more fumbling with print-outs of the reading booklets – the App brings up the right page on your screen while playing the audio at the same time. 
Lastly, the App allows you to download the lessons individually or at once so you don't have to worry about going over your bandwidth or if your Internet connection is too slow to download the entire course.  Best of all if you lose your connection, or have to stop downloading midway, the App will keep what you already downloaded. You start where you left off.


Q: After I purchase my downloadable course, when do I get it? How much time do I have to download my course(s) after purchase?

A: Once you purchase your course, you can access it immediately. You can always download it later if you like. We recommend you download your course within 6 months of purchase and that you make a backup copy onto CDs or a DVD.

Q: After I purchase my downloadable course, can I burn it onto CDs or a DVD?

A: Once you purchase your course, you are free to transfer the course from your computer onto CDs or a DVD, or other media, provided you do so for your own personal use only. We recommend using iTunes for burning your audio CDs and MP3 DVDs.

Q: What if I have additional questions or need help downloading or moving the course onto my portable device? 

A: We have support available to help you. Please email Customer Service at, or call 1-800-831-5497 for information.

Q: What is your refund policy for downloadable courses? What if I can't get the download to complete? 

A: Once you purchase your downloadable course, we are unable to provide a refund. If for any reason you have trouble downloading, please contact Pimsleur Customer Service, and we will arrange an alternate method for you to receive your purchase.

Q: If I have a problem with my credit card transaction or other billing issue, how can I get it resolved quickly? 

A: If for any reason you have trouble purchasing a course, if your card is not accepted, or if there is a billing problem that needs to be resolved, please contact Pimsleur Customer Service, and we will assist you. We are committed to resolving your issue as quickly as possible.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS (Pimsleur Course Manager App)

Any iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad running iOS 9 or higher. Minimum 1.5GB free space required on your device and WiFi for downloading the course.


Any Mac running OSX 10.7 or higher. Minimum 4GB RAM, minimum 1280x1024 display, WiFi for downloading the course and at least 10GB free hard drive space is recommended.


Most android smartphones and tablets running Android version 4.1 or above are supported. Minimum 1.5GB free space on your device is required and WiFi for downloading the course.

Windows PC's:

Supports Windows 7, 8, & 10. Minimum 4GB Ram, minimum 1280x1024 display, WiFi for downloading the course, and at least 10GB free hard drive space is recommended.

FlexiPay is a 0% APR and no interest payment plan and an easy way to divide your purchase into three low monthly payments at no extra charge. This is an installment billing plan where equal payments are made on your credit or debit card in accordance with the below schedule, rather than the whole amount being charged upfront. If you elect to pay via FlexiPay, the total purchase price plus any applicable shipping and tax will be charged in three equal installments. The first payment will be charged at the time the order is placed. Thereafter, your account will be charged by Pimsleur approximately every 30 days for the remaining number of payments with 0% APR and no interest in accordance with the following schedule: 

  • 1st Payment: 1/3 of the total sale; billed on your credit or debit card at the time of order
  • 2nd Payment: 1/3 of the total sale; billed on your credit or debit card approximately 30 days after sale
  • 3rd Payment: 1/3 of the total sale; billed on your credit or debit card approximately 60 days after sale

The FlexiPay Installment Plan is made available on select purchases only. Minimum purchase requirements (after application of promotional discounts) may apply. By proceeding with the FlexiPay Installment Plan, you agree that you will keep enough credit available on the credit or debit card you have provided so future installments can be billed to that card. If the card expires or is cancelled, you agree to notify Pimsleur and supply an alternative card with the necessary funds available before the next payment is due. Failure to have the necessary funds may result in discontinuance of your access to the Pimsleur digital product purchased under the FlexiPay Installment Plan.

In the event you fail to make a payment under the FlexiPay Installment Plan, you agree to pay all costs related to the collection of the outstanding balance of the purchase price, including, without limitation, reasonable legal fees, costs associated with the engagement of a third party collection agency (including any percentage charged by the debt collection agency for the collection of the balance of the purchase price) and all other expenses and collection costs resulting from your default. 

The FlexiPay Installment Plan is available only on select purchases and for customers with a billing address in the United States, excluding customers with a billing address in the state of Florida.

Appropriate sales tax is calculated during the check-out process and is based on existing local, state, and federal laws. During the checkout process, you will be able to select your preferred shipping option. The cost for any expedited methods you have chosen will be calculated for you and displayed for your approval.

There is never a shipping charge for Pimsleur MP3 downloads, which can be delivered worldwide.

There is no charge for standard shipping of physical (CDs and software) Pimsleur products in the contiguous U.S. Delivery to PO Boxes is only available for standard shipping within the contiguous U.S. For shipments to Alaska or Hawaii, select Express or Expedited shipping. We do not ship physical Pimsleur products outside of the United States. Digital downloads are available worldwide.

The delivery time frame will vary based on the shipping option you have chosen during the checkout process:

Free/Standard: Orders ship within 1 business day and should arrive within 4 - 5 business days of order date. (Your item will ship from our warehouse in New Jersey.)

Express: Average delivery is 2 – 3 days, but can take up to 5 days for some locations such as Alaska.

Expedited: Orders placed before 9:30 am EST ship the same day. Average delivery is 1 – 2 business days, but can take up to 5 business days for locations such as Alaska.

Pimsleur digital downloads cannot be returned for credit or refund.

If for any reason you have trouble downloading, please contact Pimsleur Customer Service, and we will arrange an alternate method for you to receive your purchase.

We will refund on returns of your physical purchase if you:

  • Return unopened products in their original condition.
  • Include your packing slip or invoice, and return purchases (Pimsleur Foreign Language Programs) within 90 days of the shipment date listed on your packing slip.
  • To arrange your return, please call us domestically at 1-800-831-5497 or internationally at 0-800-051-4293.  We are open 24/7.
  • Original shipment charges are not refundable.
  • Please ship returns by traceable, insured means along with the original packing slip or invoice.
  • You are responsible for all costs associated with return shipment.
  • Returns made to will be refunded in the same form as the original payment.
  • The credit for your return will be applied to the credit card used to make the purchase.
  • It may take up to two credit card billing cycles for the credit to appear on your statement.
  • Refunds cannot be made for items returned to us more than 90 days after original shipment date.
  • Exchanges can only be made for damaged goods or incorrect shipments.
  • Pimsleur digital downloads cannot be returned for credit or refund.

Q: In comparing the CD and MP3 options, I notice that each format uses different words to describe the product (Level, Phase, Lesson….) is the actual content different?

A:  The audio content is the same, but labeled differently.  Level is for CDs, Phase is for MP3 downloads; Lesson = Unit.

Q: I already know some of the language I intend to learn. Can I start at Level 2 or 3?

A: The Pimsleur courses are designed to be taken in sequence starting with the first course: each successive course builds on the teachings of the previous course. In most cases, it is recommended to start with Level 1. Customer Service will be glad to help you assess your level if you feel you don't need to start with Level 1. Q: When do I do the Reading Lessons?

A: Depending on the course, you may choose to do the readings along with the lesson units, or after every other unit or so, or you may want to wait and do them all together, after completing the course units. Feel free to repeat the Reading Lessons as often as needed. Certain courses, including Chinese and Japanese, have Culture Notes in place of Reading Lessons.

Q: How do the Reading Lessons work?
The Reading exercises use a phonetic approach. When you first start the Reading Lessons, we introduce you to the sounds of your target language as they are written and to a new alphabet, if appropriate. The items have been selected especially to give you practice in the written representation of the language's sounds and sound combinations. You will progress from sound/symbol correlation to reading for meaning.

Q: Can I obtain a transcript of the course?

A: Transcripts for Pimsleur courses are not available. Dr. Pimsleur's research revealed that depending on one's ears to input information while avoiding a dependence on written materials was a key factor in learning a new language. Even though it may at first seem counter-intuitive, we strongly recommend not taking notes or referring to outside material while doing your Pimsleur course.

Q: How many words will I learn in each new course?

A: Approximately 500 new vocabulary words per Level. However, the goal of the Pimsleur programs is to enable the learner to use and manipulate the language, to understand the structure, and to be able to construct his/her own sentences. It is not to teach as many disjointed vocabulary words as possible. Once you possess a strong structural foundation, adding vocabulary words becomes very natural.
