Best Travel Apps When You\u2019re Looking for Flights<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Hopper<\/a>\u00a0is an app that predicts flight prices and helps you book them at the right time. It claims to save you up to 40%! \u00a0One of my favorite features of the app is being able to \u201cwatch\u201d flights. Perhaps you know that at the end of the month you\u2019ll need to find a one-way ticket from Berlin to Amsterdam. You can ask Hopper to watch for this specific flight, and when prices hit a low point, you\u2019ll receive a push notification.<\/p>\n

Traveler Tip<\/strong>: never use one service exclusively when shopping for flights.<\/p>\n

Another useful app is\u00a0Skyscanner<\/a>, a leading global travel search site that prides itself on its proprietary technology to help travelers find the best deals. An upside to Skyscanner is that it doesn\u2019t charge a commission to use its site (compared to Hopper, which does). Also, it is unbiased – it doesn’t get paid by any company to order the search results.\u00a0 And it doesn’t use cookies to bump up prices or manipulate demand.\u00a0 Skyscanner\u2019s goal is to inspire travelers and make traveling as easy and accessible as possible.<\/p>\n

Best Travel Apps\u00a0When You Need a Place to Stay<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Airbnb<\/a>\u00a0is a well-known hub for lodging, and for good reason. \u00a0Airbnb in general offers more space for less money and rentals are typically equipped with full kitchens for those of you who like impersonating MasterChef. In my experience, the hosts are knowledgeable and offer local insight. In some cases, such as renting a private room, it can be a great way to meet people as well.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re traveling on a budget or prefer communal lodging,\u00a0HostelWorld<\/a>\u00a0is an app that showcases over 36,000 hostel properties in 170 countries around the world.<\/p>\n

Another great option is\u00a0Hotel Tonight<\/a>, an app that offers last-minute deals. It\u2019s ideal for flexible travelers and bookers who leave everything to the last minute, like my mom and me!<\/p>\n

Learning to speak the language of the country you’re visiting<\/a> is one of the most beautiful and empowering ways to interact with a new culture. You can try your first week free<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Another way to shatter the language barrier in your free time is to download apps like,\u00a0Google Translate<\/a>, a very handy app which allows you to translate recordings of your voice into a language of your choice.<\/p>\n

One way to interact with a city, especially if you are a solo traveler, is to take walking audio tours using apps like\u00a0Rick Steve\u2019s Audio Tour<\/a>. Rick\u2019s goofy sense of humor gives you the lowdown on cultural aspects and travel tips.<\/p>\n

And one of my all-time favorites, using\u00a0WhatsApp<\/a>\u00a0to stay in touch with friends and family from home or to communicate with friends you meet along the way. WhatsApp allows you to exchange messages for free using WiFi, instead of paying for SMS.<\/p>\n
