I am a language teacher. One of the most common questions my students ask me is how to learn a new language\u2014and actually get fluent<\/em>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, it helps to find a great language course<\/a>. And, creating an effective language<\/a> immersion program<\/a> that you can do at home is awesome too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the real secret<\/a><\/em> to successfully learn a new language<\/a> is to use your passions. <\/em>In my experience, the students that had the most success took what they liked <\/em>and made it into a language learning activity. Using the things you love to do <\/em>to learn a language is a way to stick with language learning for the long haul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if you\u2019re passionate about food, you\u2019re in luck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Language Learning Using Your Passion for Food and Love of Cooking<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Foodies have a unique opportunity to turn their passion into a powerful way to learn a new language because there is no better way to connect with a culture than through its food (except, perhaps, through its music<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Food can be a powerful teacher. Recipes are a great source of new, useful vocabulary, especially for food, household objects, and kitchen verbs. While you\u2019re learning a new language, you may also be learning some new skills in the kitchen. And, to top it all off, you\u2019ll get a delicious meal at the end of your \u201cstudying\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So without further ado, here\u2019s a quick start guide on <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to Learn a Language Through Food and Cooking<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

1. Start With a Language Class<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re just starting out on your language learning journey, you might not be able to just jump right into reading recipes. It\u2019s smart to get the basics first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A language course can be a great way to build your foundation. Starting a class in the language you want to learn\u2014even if you have already been studying a bit on your own\u2014will help you make sure you have the grammar basics down, that you understand how to conjugate verbs, have some basic vocabulary, and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
