The Easiest and Fastest Way to Learn Turkish
Whether you want to travel, communicate with friends or colleagues, reconnect with family, or just understand more of what’s going on in the world around you, learning Turkish will expand your horizons and immeasurably enrich your life.

The best part is that it doesn’t have to be difficult or take years to master. Thirty minutes a day is all it takes, and we get you speaking right from the first day. Pimsleur courses use a scientifically-proven method that puts you in control of your learning. If you’ve tried other language learning methods but found they simply didn’t stick, then you owe it to yourself to give Pimsleur a try.

Why Pimsleur?
- Quick + Easy – Only 30 minutes a day.
- Portable + Flexible – Core lessons can be done anytime, anywhere, and easily fit into your busy life.
- Proven Method – Works when other methods fail.
- Self-Paced – Go fast or go slow – it’s up to you.
- Based in Science – Developed using proven research on memory and learning.
- Cost-effective – Less expensive than classes or immersion, and features all native speakers.
- Genius – Triggers your brain’s natural aptitude to learn.
- Works for everyone – Recommended for ages 13 and above.

What’s Included?
- 30, 30-minute audio lessons
- 60 minutes of reading instruction to provide you with an introduction to reading Turkish designed to teach you to sound out words with correct pronunciation and accent
- In total, 16 hours of audio, all featuring native speakers
- a Reading Booklet and a User’s Guide

What You’ll Learn
In the first 10 lessons, you’ll cover the basics: saying hello, asking for or giving information, scheduling a meal or a meeting, asking for or giving basic directions, and much more. You’ll be able to handle minimum courtesy requirements, understand much of what you hear, and be understood at a beginning level, but with near-native pronunciation skills.

In the next 10 lessons, you’ll build on what you’ve learned. Expand your menu, increase your scheduling abilities from general to specific, start to deal with currency and exchanging money, refine your conversations and add over a hundred new vocabulary items. You’ll understand more of what you hear, and be able to participate with speech that is smoother and more confident.

In the final 10 lessons, you’ll be speaking and understanding at an intermediate level. In this phase, more directions are given in the Turkish language, which moves your learning to a whole new plane. Lessons include shopping, visiting friends, going to a restaurant, plans for the evening, car trips, and talking about family. You’ll be able to speak comfortably about things that happened in the past and make plans for the future.

Reading Lessons are included at the end of Lesson 30 to provide you with an introduction to reading Turkish. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to teach you to sound out words with Turkish pronunciation and accent. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

The Pimsleur Method
We make no secret of what makes this powerful method work so well. Paul Pimsleur spent his career researching and perfecting the precise elements anyone can use to learn a language quickly and easily. Here are a few of his “secrets”:

The Principle of Anticipation
In the nanosecond between a cue and your response, your brain has to work to come up with the right word. Having to do this boosts retention, and cements the word in your mind.

Core Vocabulary
Words, phrases, and sentences are selected for their usefulness in everyday conversation. We don’t overwhelm you with too much, but steadily increase your ability with every lesson.

Graduated Interval Recall
Reminders of new words and structures come up at the exact interval for maximum retention and storage into your long-term memory.

Organic Learning
You work on multiple aspects of the language simultaneously. We integrate grammar, vocabulary, rhythm, melody, and intonation into every lesson, which allows you to experience the language as a living, expressive form of human culture.

Learning in Context
Research has shown that learning new words in context dramatically accelerates your ability to remember. Every scene in every Pimsleur lesson is set inside a conversation between two people. There are no drills, and no memorization necessary for success.

Active Participation
The Pimsleur Method + active learner participation = success. This method works with every language and every learner who follows it. You gain the power to recall and use what you know, and to add new words easily, exactly as you do in English.

The Turkish Language
Turkish is a branch of the Turkic language family and is spoken as an official language by about 70 million people in Turkey and in Northern Cyprus. Pimsleur's Turkish teaches standard Turkish, which is based on the dialect spoken in and around Istanbul.

Turkish is a fascinating language. Very much different from English, yet so easy to learn and so logical. It's refreshing and fun.
And, moreover, it's very useful when travelling to Turkey. I made good use of what I learned here, in Turkey, at the airport, in restaurants, when shopping and generally talking to people. Made new friendships with people who don't even speak any English at all. And I got constantly complimented on my knowledge of the language.
Now I only wish there were more lessons available from Pimsleur. I badly need to continue learning this amazing language.
My method was listening to the lessons everyday in my car while commuting to work. It worked perfectly for me.

This course really got very good speakers. In particular, I liked the fact that in later lessons, you got instructions directly in Turkish (discernible by the older dude with his hoarse, smoky voice).
However, as a young man traveling to the country, I would seriously wonder if I'd ever ask someone for his/her number of children; nor would I care about a fiancé(e) when I'm traveling all on my own. So this course is ideal for businessmen eating in not-too-cheap restaurants who spend a weekend or more in Turkey, but may need some improvement to suit a young man or woman in casual conversation, which is near-zero in this course. There's the formal 'you' everywhere, which is hardly ever used amongst people in their twenties or thirties.

Comments about Turkish Phase 1, Units 1-30:

I have been studying Turkish for a number of years but most of the material out there is limited and not great because Turkish is not so popular.
I have been doing Pimsleur Turkish phase 1 consistently and my Turkish had come on leaps and bounds. I can't believe the improvement.
I feel I'm really getting to grips with the language. My partner is Turkish and he's really impressed with my improvement. I'm just sad phase 2 isn't out there as I will be lost without it when I've finished phase 1. Please create phase 2!

Only negative is that I would prefer a longer pause for me to answer before the person says it. I have to pause it myself.

Comments about Turkish Phase 1, Units 1-30:

I listen to Pimsleur while driving car and while walking. I use my smartphone for listening it.

In the language I learn there is unformal "you" which people use with friends, children, family etc. and formal (or plural) you/You. Why is in the course only the formal "you" and it's conjugation forms practised?

For me would be also very handsome to see the text...I learn best by watching AND listening to be sure I got it right.

Service and delivery comments:

Great service, soon available, only too many advertise in my e-mail post box.

Comments about Turkish Phase 1, Units 1-30:

I have a 15 minute commute, so I do half on the way to work and the other half coming home. Typically listen to each lesson twice before moving on to the next lesson. As a former classroom foreign language teacher, I highly recommend any Pimsleur course for introduction to any language. The pace is good, although occasionally it seems that it introduces a few too many new words in a short amount of time. Like anything worth doing you just have to stick with it and you can't really be distracted while participating. That is why it is perfect for my commutes--because I don't have to use any brainpower to drive.

Comments about Turkish Phase 1, Units 1-30:

This is amazing. I'm so disappointed there's no Phases 2 and 3. Please develop them! I felt like I was so close to fluency with the Pimsleur Method that I use it for every language. But Turkish is the one I wish to improve, so I hope there's enough demand for it!

        Comments about Turkish, Comprehensive:

I liked this product so much, i gave the CD's I purchased for myself to my son, and purchased the product a second time on my laptop!
Finding a company that carried "Turkish" was difficult, so was happy about
        that!
I really liked the way difficult words were taught from "back to front", and
repeated often. This product was perfect for me since i really don't need to
learn to "read or write" Turkish, just speak to my new daughter-in-law's parents and new grandchild.
This product was all it was represented to be. Thank you.
