The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension, and on learning to speak Turkish.

Reading Lessons are included at the end of Lesson 30 to provide you with an introduction to reading Turkish. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to teach you to sound out words with Turkish pronunciation and accent. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

Comments about Pimsleur Turkish Level 1 Lessons 26-30 MP3:

I listened to the lessons in the car, while walking, and while cooking to prepare for an upcoming 3-month business trip to Istanbul. When I arrived, my Turkish coworkers were very impressed that I already knew some Turkish, far more than other foreigners that had been in the country for over a year. When I started the first lesson, I thought there was no way I was going to learn Turkish because it is so different from English. However,I was surprised that I was able to speak and understand after listening to each lesson multiple times. After 30 lessons, you only know the basics and I was dissapointed that there were not more Pimsleur lessons available at an intermediate level- I want to keep learning.

Service and delivery comments:

I really would have liked to go on to the next level. I felt like I was learning a lot and then there were no more lessons. The audio learning fits well into my busy schedule because I don't have time to sit down at a computer to learn.

Comments about Pimsleur Turkish Level 1 Lessons 26-30 MP3:

Used the first 16 units a few ywars ago when I first had a project in Turkey. Now that I will be going back, I restarted those lessons and purchased the rest. I do believe the methodology of listening and repeating has been effective and I believe my conversational skills are fairly good. You do learn grammer as well indirectly by patterns inherent in the conversations.

I learn languages best when there is wriiten support as well. As I did esch chapter I wrote down new words after checking with a Turkish dictionary for correct spelling. This was important as several words I would have pronounced and spelled incorrectly just from the oral. I very much wish written transcripts of each chapter were available. The short written guide included with the lessons 26-30 are not enough.

I called the company to ask about transcripts and was informed that Dr. Pimsleur felt that maximum learning takes place with an oral-only mode. I do not think that every person learns languages the best way. A written accompaniment would aid a lot.

Comments about Pimsleur Turkish Level 1 Lessons 26-30 MP3:

Very helpful in learning Turkish. Since I already speak Farsi, I found many words to be familiar, and was a bit frustrated with repetition of words I knew. I found it helpful to make vocabulary flash cards even though the instructions say not to do this. With the flash cards, I could work on the vocabulary that was new for me. Also I wish I had known about the reading lessons earlier in using the program. Maybe there is a notice somewhere about them, but I wasn't aware until I purchased the final set of lessons.
I am writing this during my trip to Turkey, and I have been pleased to be able to converse at least minimally with the people we meet.

Comments about Pimsleur Turkish Level 1 Lessons 26-30 MP3:

Have always struggled with languages. Used this to prepare for a vacation in Istanbul. Found it fun, easy and extremely helpful. I wish this series continued with a Phase 2. Though I didn't end up with a huge vocabulary, I found that my pronunciation was good enough to make natives think I could speak fluently, which sometimes was not an advantage!
