Description

Includes 5 lessons and reading instruction (150 minutes) as MP3 download, plus PDF reading booklet

The Pimsleur® Method is scientifically proven to be your fastest route to near-native fluency. Speak and understand Swedish in just 30 minutes a day.

This course includes Lessons 16-20 from the Swedish Level 1 Program featuring 2.5 hours of language instruction. Each lesson provides 30 minutes of spoken language practice, with an introductory conversation, and new vocabulary and structures. Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. Practice for vocabulary introduced in previous lessons is included in each lesson. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension, and on learning to speak Swedish.

Reading Lessons are included to provide you with an introduction to reading Swedish. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to teach you to sound out words with Swedish pronunciation and accent. A Reading Booklet is included with your download.

The Swedish Language
Swedish is an Indo-European language that belongs to the North Germanic branch of the Germanic languages, all of which derive from Old Norse. This course teaches rikssvenska (sometimes referred to as Standard Swedish) as spoken in and around the capital region of Stockholm. Swedish is spoken by approximately 10 million people, mostly in Sweden and parts of Finland. Norwegian and Swedish are considered mutually intelligible, with Danish also being very similar.

Comments about Swedish Phase 1, Unit 16-20:

I have gone to Swedish School, been to Sweden many times, and used other training products, but this program is the only approach that is giving me confidence to speak Swedish and understand what Swedes are talking about.

      great product!

      Swedish, unit 16-20

Comments about Swedish Phase 1, Unit 16-20:

Lesson 20 was missing, replaced by the lesson 20 reading material. I tried to "pick it up" in lesson 21, and while I mostly got it, still feel I could have benefited from the lesson. I probably should have called, but didn't have the time.

Comments about Swedish Phase 1, Unit 16-20:

People learn languages in different ways. Pimsleur happens to be the method that works best for me. I'd done 4 levels of Spanish, 3 of Italian, 1 of Mandarin and 2 of Japanese before beginning Swedish, and all have given me a confident start in the new language. Something about the way the lessons are structured makes it possible to recall words and phrases when needed, and eventually to adapt key phrases to new vocabulary. Most of my learning was done on a 30-minute commute! Worth the price; I wouldn't buy anything else.
