The Easiest and Fastest Way to Learn Swedish
Whether you want to travel, communicate with friends or colleagues, reconnect with family, or just understand more of what’s going on in the world around you, learning Swedish will expand your horizons and immeasurably enrich your life.

The best part is that it doesn’t have to be difficult or take years to master. Thirty minutes a day is all it takes, and we get you speaking right from the first day. Pimsleur courses use a scientifically-proven method that puts you in control of your learning. If you’ve tried other language learning methods but found they simply didn’t stick, then you owe it to yourself to give Pimsleur a try.

Why Pimsleur?
- Quick + Easy – Only 30 minutes a day.
- Portable + Flexible – Core lessons can be done anytime, anywhere, and easily fit into your busy life.
- Proven Method – Works when other methods fail.
- Self-Paced – Go fast or go slow – it’s up to you.
- Based in Science – Developed using proven research on memory and learning.
- Cost-effective – Less expensive than classes or immersion, and features all native speakers.
- Genius – Triggers your brain’s natural aptitude to learn.
- Works for everyone – Recommended for ages 13 and above.

What’s Included?
- 30, 30-minute audio lessons
- 60 minutes of reading instruction to provide you with an introduction to reading Swedish designed to teach you to sound out words with correct pronunciation and accent
- In total, 16 hours of audio, all featuring native speakers
- a Reading Booklet and a User’s Guide

What You’ll Learn
In the first 10 lessons, you’ll cover the basics: saying hello, asking for or giving information, scheduling a meal or a meeting, asking for or giving basic directions, and much more. You’ll be able to handle minimum courtesy requirements, understand much of what you hear, and be understood at a beginning level, but with near-native pronunciation skills.

In the next 10 lessons, you’ll build on what you’ve learned. Expand your menu, increase your scheduling abilities from general to specific, start to deal with currency and exchanging money, refine your conversations and add over a hundred new vocabulary items. You’ll understand more of what you hear, and be able to participate with speech that is smoother and more confident.

In the final 10 lessons, you’ll be speaking and understanding at an intermediate level. In this phase, more directions are given in the Swedish language, which moves your learning to a whole new plane. Lessons include shopping, visiting friends, going to a restaurant, plans for the evening, car trips, and talking about family. You’ll be able to speak comfortably about things that happened in the past and make plans for the future.

Reading Lessons begin in Lesson 11 to provide you with an introduction to reading Swedish. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to teach you to sound out words with Swedish pronunciation and accent. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

The Pimsleur Method
We make no secret of what makes this powerful method work so well. Paul Pimsleur spent his career researching and perfecting the precise elements anyone can use to learn a language quickly and easily. Here are a few of his “secrets”:

The Principle of Anticipation
In the nanosecond between a cue and your response, your brain has to work to come up with the right word. Having to do this boosts retention, and cements the word in your mind.

Core Vocabulary
Words, phrases, and sentences are selected for their usefulness in everyday conversation. We don’t overwhelm you with too much, but steadily increase your ability with every lesson.

Graduated Interval Recall
Reminders of new words and structures come up at the exact interval for maximum retention and storage into your long-term memory.

Organic Learning
You work on multiple aspects of the language simultaneously. We integrate grammar, vocabulary, rhythm, melody, and intonation into every lesson, which allows you to experience the language as a living, expressive form of human culture.

Learning in Context
Research has shown that learning new words in context dramatically accelerates your ability to remember. Every scene in every Pimsleur lesson is set inside a conversation between two people. There are no drills, and no memorization necessary for success.

Active Participation
The Pimsleur Method + active learner participation = success. This method works with every language and every learner who follows it. You gain the power to recall and use what you know, and to add new words easily, exactly as you do in English.

The Swedish Language
Swedish is an Indo-European language that belongs to the North Germanic branch of the Germanic languages, all of which derive from Old Norse. This course teaches rikssvenska (sometimes referred to as Standard Swedish) as spoken in and around the capital region of Stockholm. Swedish is spoken by approximately 10 million people, mostly in Sweden and parts of Finland. Norwegian and Swedish are considered mutually intelligible, with Danish also being very similar.

Tech Talk
- CDs are formatted for playing in all CD players, including car players, and users can copy files for use in iTunes or Windows Media Player.

I bought this comprehensive Swedish set because I want to continue to improve my Swedish. I have family in Sweden and learned a little Swedish as a kid. As an adult, I've taught myself through books, tapes and computer programs and consider myself somewhat conversational, but limited to certain subjects. This method is BY FAR the best way for me to learn a language. I use it when I am driving in my car. I can tell that my brain is making connections and I am able to create new sentences when prompted to think about how I would say something that the lesson has not yet gone over. The constant review of vocabulary is so valuable. Even in unit #1 I learned a few words that I did not know. My grammar is also improving. I also like that when you learn words, you understand exactly what you are saying. Some programs have you memorize a sentence without really knowing what it exactly translates into. That's just memorizing. Pimsleur is understanding and making the right connections. I find that with using it in the car, I am more motivated rather than getting on the computer to learn. I work on a computer during the day for work. What's not so great? The only thing for me is I wish it moved a bit faster, but I truly believe that the pace the lessons go at are due to how the brain learns best. This product is perfect for beginners too. I'm anxious to let my family members learn from it too. I plan to learn other languages with this method as well. I've already started with the first eight lessons of Japanese.

I bought this after my excellent experience with the Farsi Pimsleur course. I have gone through half of the lessons and am not as happy with it as I was with the Farsi course.

There is a lack of enunciation in the later courses which makes it very difficult to understand what the teachers are saying. I understand that the Swedish language is very fast paced, but I think it would be better to spend some time on enunciation for us beginners.

If I did not have someone I know that speaks Swedish, whom I use to check my pronunciation, I would call this course very ineffective as that person has said repeatedly that my pronunciation is off.

Comments about Swedish Phase 1, Units 1-30:

I have been studying Swedish for over a year on line and in books. I am a second generation American and am interested in learning the language of my ancestors in preparation for visiting Sweden again some day. Although I have learned a lot of grammar and vocabulary, speaking Swedish - and understanding spoken Swedish - is a challenge just from learning by reading. Not only are the phonetics of Swedish complicated, but spoken Swedish is very hard to understand because native speakers tend to run words together and speak very quickly. Despite about 16 months of study I couldn't make out very much at all when I listened to Swedish movies or programs and I was frustrated. I decided to try the Pimsleur program, because I had really enjoyed learning Spanish 1-4 with Pimsleur. (I learned how to speak easily and smoothly from the very beginning learning Spanish this way) I am happy to say that just by going through Swedish 1, my ear can now pick up far more spoken Swedish and I have been able to begin to feel that I can say some things on my own. I am eager for Pimsleur to produce more levels of Swedish so I can continue my studies, but just by doing Swedish 1 my other studies have been given a real boost.

Not only it helped me to learn some basic elements of the language but it opened a totally new world to me, which excites me and motivates me to delve more into the language. I definitely recommend it and I wish it had more audio lessons as the other languages do.I hope it will in the future!

Comments about Swedish Phase 1, Units 1-30:

I am blown away at how effective this Swedish course is. I have tried LingQ, Rosetta, Duolingo.... you name it, I have probably tried it. Pimsleur actually cares about having near native sounding speakers, if not actually native speakers, speaking in their lessons. I do have a complaint though, why did Pimsleur stop at just Level 1?? Where are Levels 2, and 3??
