What You’ll Learn
Builds upon skills taught in Pimsleur’s Spanish Levels 1 and 2.

In the first 10 lessons, you will expand your vocabulary and increase your fluency to an even higher level. You’ll gain experience participating in many informal and some formal discussions on practical, social, and semiprofessional topics. You’ll skillfully form longer, more complex sentences, and most importantly, you’ll find yourself being understood, even by native speakers unused to dealing with foreigners. You’ll be able to join in conversations eagerly, confident of being understood.

In the next 10 lessons, your skills will demonstrate ever-increasing mastery of Spanish. Speaking with grace and complete naturalness, you’ll enjoy fluid conversations on many new subjects. Delving deeper into cultural norms and situations, you’ll find yourself responding effortlessly, and able to choose from a wide accumulation of vocabulary and structures.

In the final 10 lessons, you’re nearing fluency with agile responses, and a natural sounding, near-native accent. You’re able to utilize the language in subtle ways, and speak using past, present, and future tenses. Self-confidence soars as you no longer experience the language and culture as a foreigner, but as someone with a deepening insight into the Spanish-speaking world.

Reading Lessons are included at the end of Lesson 30. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to give you practice reading Spanish, to provide vocabulary and improve pronunciation. Before you know it, you’ll be reading Spanish with the ease and flexibility of a native speaker.

The Pimsleur Method
We make no secret of what makes this powerful method work so well. Paul Pimsleur spent his career researching and perfecting the precise elements anyone can use to learn a language quickly and easily. Here are a few of his “secrets”:

The Principle of Anticipation
In the nanosecond between a cue and your response, your brain has to work to come up with the right word. Having to do this boosts retention, and cements the word in your mind.

Core Vocabulary
Words, phrases, and sentences are selected for their usefulness in everyday conversation. We don’t overwhelm you with too much, but steadily increase your ability with every lesson.

Graduated Interval Recall
Reminders of new words and structures come up at the exact interval for maximum retention and storage into your long-term memory.

Organic Learning
You work on multiple aspects of the language simultaneously. We integrate grammar, vocabulary, rhythm, melody, and intonation into every lesson, which allows you to experience the language as a living, expressive form of human culture.

Learning in Context
Research has shown that learning new words in context dramatically accelerates your ability to remember. Every scene in every Pimsleur lesson is set inside a conversation between two people. There are no drills, and no memorization necessary for success.

Active Participation
The Pimsleur Method + active learner participation = success. This method works with every language and every learner who follows it. You gain the power to recall and use what you know, and to add new words easily, exactly as you do in English.

The Spanish Language
Spanish is the official language of 19 Latin American nations, as well as Spain, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba. Further, it’s one of the six official languages recognized by the United Nations. Pimsleur's Spanish programs teach an educated Latin American Spanish, featuring speakers from Colombia and Mexico. Students can expect to understand the lessons clearly and to be understood by Spanish speakers everywhere.

I love that I can spend travel time in my car in such a beneficial way. I'm loving the process of learning a new language and the anticipation of starting a new lesson to see what I can add to my knowledge. Thanks to what I'm learning, I feel confident I could get by in a Spanish-speaking environment without too much trouble.
However, being in Level 3 I am very frustrated with the slow pace of introduction of new material. I don't think it's necessary to keep asking me to say "My name is..." or "You speak English very well" or "Thank you very much."
To me this is a total waste of time. I understand that repetition is key to learning, but this is way too basic. Please give me some more meat!!

Did it meet my expectations? I found the lessons reasonably easy to follow in sequence, although I often stopped and backed up to clarify something in my mind. Each lesson always took me more than 30 minutes; I didn't mind because the course would be of less value if I did not try to make sure of understanding each point of grammar or vocabulary. I was able to pick up quite a number of useful 'general' expressions which I have since found useful in both listening and speaking Spanish.
Would I recommend you to a friend? Well, that would depend on the friend and what that friend wanted out of the course. If the friend were in the top 10% of the population in income, intelligent, well educated, employed and with lots of time to waste/spend on non-essentials (I could go on for quite a while, but you get the idea), I would definitely recommend the program. BUT if the friend wanted to learn Spanish in order to communicate with the other 90% of the people and serve them, love them, understand them and their hopes, fears, culture, grinding poverty and the reasons therefor, who is willing to sacrifice to help these lower 90% and not expect income deductions in return, who knows what it is like to walk along a very dusty road in dry season and how much cleaning up afterwards is necessary to satisfy the average North American, who realizes what the word "barrio" really means rather than just the dictionary definition of "a neighbourhood where Spanish is spoken" (again I could go on for a while), I would tell the friend, "There are some really good things about this course, but a lot of the vocabulary is aimed at people who don't speak the same 'language' that they do in the barrio. If words such as vacaciones, golf, tennis, hotels, aviones, pasajes, regalos, reuniones, excursiones, discursos, profesores, universidades, ingenieros, clientes, etc. are not part of your everyday vocabulary, I would suggest that you look around a bit and see what other options you can find."

    Service and delivery comments:

The delivery was quite prompt - I downloaded the mp3s the same day that I ordered them. And a very nice lady on the other end of the (wireless) phone connection was very good at explaining how the courses work, how to pay for them, and what special deals were available, etc.

Comments about Pimsleur Spanish Level 3 MP3:

I have been wanting to learn Spanish for several years, I admit I started this series so long ago it was on cassette. Made it through the fist set of tapes and sort of dropped it. Tried a few other systems since this one seems priced a little high, but had bad results with the others. The price, especially since it is now offered on MP3 format is well worth it. It is great the way each lesson builds on each other in a real world useablity.

Comments about Pimsleur Spanish Level 3 MP3:

I listen to a lesson each day on my way to work and review the lesson on my way home. I like the instructors voices and the most of the content. I wish there was more informal instruction rather than so much business man content. have tried other methods and have not had the same results. I will definitely continue to use this product to the end.

        Service and delivery comments:

More instruction on every day life examples would be great and a little bit more pause for me to respond. I feel like I'm just forming it in my head and need about two more seconds to respond out loud.
