What You’ll Learn
Builds upon skills taught in Pimsleur’s Russian Levels 1 and 2.

In the first 10 lessons, you will expand your vocabulary and increase your fluency to an even higher level. You’ll gain experience participating in many informal and some formal discussions on practical, social, and semiprofessional topics. You’ll skillfully form longer, more complex sentences, and most importantly, you’ll find yourself being understood, even by native speakers unused to dealing with foreigners. You’ll be able to join in conversations eagerly, confident of being understood.

In the next 10 lessons, your skills will demonstrate ever-increasing mastery of Russian. Speaking with grace and complete naturalness, you’ll enjoy fluid conversations on many new subjects. Delving deeper into cultural norms and situations, you’ll find yourself responding effortlessly, and able to choose from a wide accumulation of vocabulary and structures.

In the final 10 lessons, you’re nearing fluency with agile responses, and a natural sounding, near-native accent. You’re able to utilize the language in subtle ways, and speak using past, present, and future tenses. Self-confidence soars as you no longer experience the language and culture as a foreigner, but as someone with a deepening insight into the Russian-speaking world.

Reading Lessons are included at the end of Lesson 30. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to give you practice reading Russian, to provide vocabulary and improve pronunciation. Before you know it, you’ll be reading Russian with the ease and flexibility of a native speaker.

The Pimsleur Method
We make no secret of what makes this powerful method work so well. Paul Pimsleur spent his career researching and perfecting the precise elements anyone can use to learn a language quickly and easily. Here are a few of his “secrets”:

The Principle of Anticipation
In the nanosecond between a cue and your response, your brain has to work to come up with the right word. Having to do this boosts retention, and cements the word in your mind.

Core Vocabulary
Words, phrases, and sentences are selected for their usefulness in everyday conversation. We don’t overwhelm you with too much, but steadily increase your ability with every lesson.

Graduated Interval Recall
Reminders of new words and structures come up at the exact interval for maximum retention and storage into your long-term memory.

Organic Learning
You work on multiple aspects of the language simultaneously. We integrate grammar, vocabulary, rhythm, melody, and intonation into every lesson, which allows you to experience the language as a living, expressive form of human culture.

Learning in Context
Research has shown that learning new words in context dramatically accelerates your ability to remember. Every scene in every Pimsleur lesson is set inside a conversation between two people. There are no drills, and no memorization necessary for success.

Active Participation
The Pimsleur Method + active learner participation = success. This method works with every language and every learner who follows it. You gain the power to recall and use what you know, and to add new words easily, exactly as you do in English.

The Russian Language
Russian, one of the six official languages of the United Nations, is the official language in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Krygystan, with an estimated 150 million native speakers around the world. Pimsleur's Russian uses speakers from Moscow and St. Petersburg, which accounts for slight pronunciation differences between speakers, but accurately depicts contemporary spoken Russian.

Tech Talk
- CDs are formatted for playing in all CD players, including car players, and users can copy files for use in iTunes or Windows Media Player.

I am long overdue to write a review for this product. Completing level III lays such a strong foundation of the language. You will not become 100% fluent, as this would take volumes and volumes of vocabulary lessons to become possible. However, you will possess a reasonable command of the Russian language as a whole. If you need to learn a new word, look it up and then plug it into your already existing vocabulary.

You will learn most of the essential vocabulary to form your own sentences and to get by in a variety of situations. What I love about Pimsleur is the intuitiveness of its learning. Not once did I open a book to study proper grammar, or to learn proper sentence structure. The same goes for learning past/future tenses, conjugation, etc. These things I picked up naturally through the audio lessons. Over time you'll start to develop a natural sense of where things belong and the correct thing to say.

All it takes is 30 minutes a day. If I could only give one word of advice, it would be to be patient and just keep doing your 30 minutes a day no matter what. Time is going to pass anyways, you might as well start learning a new language. Even if you're a slow learner and it takes you 2 years, it will be worth it if you don't give up on yourself. Just wait and see, you will succesd.

In the beginning it can feel hard and confusing, and sometimes it can be tempting to quit. Just keep going. You will get to a point where you will become proud of everything you learned. Keep going even longer, go over the lessons again, still doing 30 minutes a day. Over time you will no longer be proud of what you have learned, everything will just become fact. You will say something because it is the right word to say. You will respond effortlessly to someone because by reflex you know it's the right way to respond. You will become familiar with the vocabulary enough to where it feels just as normal as your native language (English for me). The same applies for the reading/writing aspect of the program. It will all stick as it becomes a natural part of you. And guess what? You are now reading, writing and speaking Russian!!

Comments about Pimsleur Russian Level 3 CD:

I listen to the tapes at night. I find that the repetition of the phrases helps me to
Learn new words/phrases. Most of the tapes are geared towards people traveling to Russia. I work with Russian clients and want to know more everyday conversation. . I wish Pimsleur would be less travel oriented and more everyday oriented.

Comments about Russian Phase 3, Units 1-30:

I am now about half way through these lessons. As with 1 and 2, phase 3 adds a little new material each lesson, and continues to reinforce previous material. I expect that a Russian phase 4 would be well received as well.

Comments about Pimsleur Russian Level 3 CD:

I listen most mornings for half an hour. It is only 30 minutes, and very clearly presented. Although it is suggested that no writing be done, I wish they could have included a phonetic dictionary. Otherwise a great product.
