What You’ll Learn
Builds upon skills taught in Pimsleur’s Russian Level 1.

In the first 10 lessons you’ll begin using the past tense. Structures become more complex and informal speech is introduced. Soon you’ll take part in conversations about ordering meals, shopping, and local tourist attractions. As you progress, your fluency will increase as your vocabulary expands.

The next 10 lessons will allow you to further combine and build upon known elements, and produce longer and more complex sentences. You’ll be discussing business and social activities, expressing your interests, and talking about the weather.

In the final 10 lessons you’ll double your vocabulary and have several hundred structures to draw upon. You’ll learn to express yourself with relative structures – faster, slower, etc. You’ll be able to ask for assistance in many situations and to ask for directions to various locations. You’ll explore sports and leisure activities, manage changing money and banking, and discuss travel plans. By the end of the program, you’ll be speaking at a mid-intermediate level with near-native pronunciation, and you’ll be comfortable meeting most social demands and limited job requirements.

Reading Lessons, which build upon the language skills acquired in Level 1, are included at the end of Lesson 30. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to give you practice reading Russian.

The Pimsleur Method
We make no secret of what makes this powerful method work so well. Paul Pimsleur spent his career researching and perfecting the precise elements anyone can use to learn a language quickly and easily. Here are a few of his “secrets”:

The Principle of Anticipation
In the nanosecond between a cue and your response, your brain has to work to come up with the right word. Having to do this boosts retention, and cements the word in your mind.

Core Vocabulary
Words, phrases, and sentences are selected for their usefulness in everyday conversation. We don’t overwhelm you with too much, but steadily increase your ability with every lesson.

Graduated Interval Recall
Reminders of new words and structures come up at the exact interval for maximum retention and storage into your long-term memory.

Organic Learning
You work on multiple aspects of the language simultaneously. We integrate grammar, vocabulary, rhythm, melody, and intonation into every lesson, which allows you to experience the language as a living, expressive form of human culture.

Learning in Context
Research has shown that learning new words in context dramatically accelerates your ability to remember. Every scene in every Pimsleur lesson is set inside a conversation between two people. There are no drills, and no memorization necessary for success.

Active Participation
The Pimsleur Method + active learner participation = success. This method works with every language and every learner who follows it. You gain the power to recall and use what you know, and to add new words easily, exactly as you do in English.

The Russian Language
Russian, one of the six official languages of the United Nations, is the official language in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Krygystan, with an estimated 150 million native speakers around the world. Pimsleur's Russian uses speakers from Moscow and St. Petersburg, which accounts for slight pronunciation differences between speakers, but accurately depicts contemporary spoken Russian.

Tech Talk
- CDs are formatted for playing in all CD players, including car players, and users can copy files for use in iTunes or Windows Media Player.

Comments about Pimsleur Russian Level 2 MP3:

This is the second language I am learning with the Pimsleur program. I have a degree in German and French and was looking for something meaningful to do with the time I spend driving to and from work, (and also to control my road rage). I first learned Spanish and am now learning Russian.

I work as Literacy Coordinator and try to match volunteer tutors with adults who are learning English. Many times people come in to find a tutor and cannot speak any English at all. Thanks to the speediness in learning Spanish, and now Russian, I am able to communicate with these people. It is very easy to listen to a CD over and over until I have it perfectly and then goon to the next CD while driving to and from work or anytime that I am in the car. I could say things to native speakers even after the first CD.

The only drawback that I have had to come to terms with is the price. It is very expensive to buy the whole course. One can find the first half the the first level at a local library, but from there on, one must purchase it to continue. I buy as I need the courses, which I can directly download to my computer. Then I put it on a thumb drive in order to listen in my car.

There is also a booklet to be downloaded where you can practice the Cyrillic alphabet and learn to read and write, but the main thrust is to be able to speak. Listening doesn't automatically teach you how to read or spell words.

I told two of my Russian students that I wanted to purchase the next level of Russian, but was hesitating because of the cost, so they said they could possibly get something for me for free. Two days later they brought me a zipped thumb drive with a complete Russian course. So after I finished the Level 1 Pimsleur course, I popped in their thumb drive. All it contained were vocabulary words spoken by native speakers, one right after the other. There was no context, nothing to help you remember the word. So I bit the bullet and bought Level 2. I am able to speak more and more every day.

I love it! After I finish level 3, I'm considering Mandarin!

Comments about Russian II, Comprehensive:

I utilized the program as instructed, completing one session per day daily. I have completed the first 30 day course of Russian I and have started my second 30 day course of Russian II. I have already reached a level where I can start to build simple sentences that can effectively start to communicate with a Russian speaker. I believe anyone that will put forth the effort to learn a language using this method will learn the the language but more importantly, have the skill level to be able to effective converse with a native speaker.

Comments about Pimsleur Russian Level 2 MP3:

I have been through the first level and the first 20 lessons of the second. Generally I sit and go through the lesson at night, giving full concentration. Then I usually listen to it again the next day while driving to working. That is usually enough to be ready for the next lesson that night. If the material is particularly difficult or has many new words, I might repeat it for a second day.
I have found that my recall of words or phrases to be excellent days or many lessons later. The pronunciation training is very good. I highly recommend this product and it is definitely worth the money

      Service and delivery comments:

More repetition of earlier material in later lessons.
