What You’ll Learn
This Korean program includes all of Pimsleur’s Korean Levels 1 & 2. With this program you start from zero, first learning survival phrases and vocabulary, and eventually progressing to a mid-intermediate level of speaking, understanding, and reading Korean.

Every lesson contains an introductory conversation, and isolated vocabulary and structures, as well as full practice for all vocabulary introduced. Emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension. At the completion of this course, you’ll be able to speak comfortably about things that happened in the past and make plans for the future; you’ll speak confidently using your wide-ranging vocabulary, and experience the Korean language and culture with a deepening insight.

Reading Lessons are included to provide you with an introduction to reading Korean. These lessons, which total about one hour for each level, are designed to teach you to sound out words with correct pronunciation and accent.

The Pimsleur Method
We make no secret of what makes this powerful method work so well. Paul Pimsleur spent his career researching and perfecting the precise elements anyone can use to learn a language quickly and easily. Here are a few of his secrets:

The Principle of Anticipation
In the nanosecond between a cue and your response, your brain has to work to come up with the right word. Having to do this boosts retention, and cements the word in your mind.

Core Vocabulary
Words, phrases, and sentences are selected for their usefulness in everyday conversation. We don’t overwhelm you with too much, but steadily increase your ability with every lesson.

Graduated Interval Recall
Reminders of new words and structures come up at the exact interval for maximum retention and storage into your long-term memory.

Organic Learning
You work on multiple aspects of the language simultaneously. We integrate grammar, vocabulary, rhythm, melody, and intonation into every lesson, which allows you to experience the language as a living, expressive form of human culture.

Learning in Context
Research has shown that learning new words in context dramatically accelerates your ability to remember. Every scene in every Pimsleur lesson is set inside a conversation between two people. There are no drills, and no memorization necessary for success.

Active Participation
The Pimsleur Method + active learner participation = success. This method works with every language and every learner who follows it. You gain the power to recall and use what you know, and to add new words easily, exactly as you do in English.

The Korean Language
Korean, the native language of about 80 million people, is the official language of both North and South Korea. It is also spoken in neighboring Yanbian, China. There are two standard dialects, Seoul (South Korea) and P'yongyang (North Korea). Pimsleur's Korean teaches the Seoul dialect of South Korea.

Good material. Takes a little more than 1 lesson a day or repeat a lesson in a row.

    Comments about Korean Phases 1-2:

I started with Korean I after watching nightly dramas. After the course cleared up many of the mysteries of the language, I started on Korean II, which really brought in details and the grammar. I never realized that I was learning the grammar as well as the words, till I had already learned them!

    Service and delivery comments:

I would produce Korean 3 concentrating on more lengthy conversational practices as well as introducing new words and grammar.

      Comments about Korean Phases 1-2:

I'm learning Korean. The course is easy to use. I like hearing a male and a female instructor. Sometimes their pronunciation is slightly different from each other as it would be with native speakers. The other popular course i bought didn't give important details like sentence structure and formal and informal speaking information in the beginning. From the first lesson I began to understand those things. Also the Korean alphabet and it's various pronunciations is clearly explained right front he beginning.
So far I haven't anything negative to say about the course. If I apply myself and practice everyday, as suggested, i'm sure i will be speaking Korean so that I'll be understood. I'll also fully enjoy Korean dramas by turning off the sub-titles.

      Comments about Korean I-II:

I like pimsleur, I own the spanish, French and Korean. Korean is my first and I got it because I work with Koreans in Animation so they are my peer group.

That being said, I appreciate being able to order and I met women using this but one thing they all said that I needed to know if I wanted to speak Korean is to know how to speak to peers and those lower than me. Because Pimsleur teaches you how to talk to elders and those above you can be talking to your next GF or co worker who is younger than you and talk to them like she was her Grandma. Not a good look.

I would recommend a III, and a IV and V to cover the different social stages in Korean that one needs to know to address peers and those subordinates.

      Comments about Korean Phases 1-2:

This is the second Pimsleur course I have purchased. I have tried many different language programs, but none that I like as well as Pimsleur. The ability to add the programs to my i-phone and review them anywhere has added to the speed at which I learn. I especially like the way Pimsleur incorporates new words and phrases along with review of previous material. I find their 30-minute a day program to be an effective way to learn; however I have doubled it to one program in the morning and another in the evening and found that I can increase my speed of learning without much loss of retention. Overall I have found it well worth the price and would recommend it to anyone.
