Description

Includes 30 lessons and reading instruction on 16 CDs, plus a reading booklet

Korean is the official language of both North and South Korea. ItÕs also spoken in neighboring Yanbian, China. Some 72 million speak Korean. There are two standard dialects, Seoul (South Korea) and P'yongyang (North Korea). Pimsleur's Korean teaches the Seoul dialect of South Korea.

The Pimsleur® Method: the easiest, fastest way to learn a new language. Completely portable, easily downloadable, and lots of fun. You’ll be speaking and understanding in no time flat! Korean I, Comprehensive includes 15 hours of spoken language practice and one hour of reading instruction in thirty, 30-minute lessons.

  • In the first 10 lessons, you’ll cover the basics: saying hello, asking for or giving information, scheduling a meal or a meeting, asking for or giving basic directions, and much more. You’ll be able to handle minimum courtesy requirements, understand much of what you hear, and be understood at a beginning level, but with near-native pronunciation skills.
  • In the next 10 lessons, you’ll build on what you’ve learned. Expand your menu, increase your scheduling abilities from general to specific, start to deal with currency and exchanging money, refine your conversations and add over a hundred new vocabulary items. You’ll understand more of what you hear, and be able to participate with speech that is smoother and more confident.
  • In the final 10 lessons, you’ll be speaking and understanding at an intermediate level. In this phase, more directions are given in the target language, which moves your learning to a whole new plane. Lessons include shopping, visiting friends, going to a restaurant, plans for the evening, car trips, and talking about family. You’ll be able to speak comfortably about things that happened in the past and make plans for the future.

Reading Lessons are included at the end of Unit 30 to provide you with an introduction to reading the Korean alphabet. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to teach you to sound out words with correct pronunciation and accent. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

Comments about Korean Phase 1, Units 1-30:

I am going to Korea in April w my Korean woman friend. I wanted to know a few basics and manners
so as not to be lost.
My friend is impressed with all that I know in such a short time. And she helps me with a few pronunciations that I may not get quite right.
I have used Pimsleur previously for 3 other languages and have found them all to be very helpful

What a nice format and I just listen to it while I'm driving. One lessons builds on the previous lesson so it's really easy to remember. Great product.

Comments about Korean Phase 1, Units 1-30:

I love the way the words are broken down and spoken by native speakers. I also love the way they carry content from one lesson to the next to help comprehension and retention. The only thing I disagree with is the idea of absorbing this material in 30 days, one lesson per day. I find I need to do each lesson at least 3 times before I move on, which means it will take me 90 days. But that's fine with me. I am really learning Korean and the time would pass anyway, so I might as well learn something while it passes.

Comments about Korean Phase 1, Units 1-30:

The lessons are a good length, not overwhelming. I like being able to study for a few minutes at a time, or at length. Responding to the native speakers forces me to think in Korean, and I enjoy hearing the rhythm of speech, not just random words. I appreciate the narrator's explanations about word usage and culture. Very informative! One difficulty I have is distinguishing sounds because I cannot see the speaker's mouth ( of course!). I hope to continue with the advanced lessons, and perhaps try another language this way. Worth the money!

        Service and delivery comments:

I don't think anything is missing, except the visual of the speakers' mouths. Otherwise, I am happy with it.
