Comments about Japanese Phase 3, Unit 06-10:

I'm currently about halfway through level three of Pimsleur Japanese. For a native English speaker, Japanese is about as difficult a language to learn as can be, but it's sinking in, despite my age (late 50s), and it's fun. I do one class daily on the commute to or from work. Generally, I'll cycle through a set of five classes twice--so a set takes me two work weeks to master.

As someone familiar with the "scholastic" approach to language learning (I've a college minor in Spanish, along with semester of French), I can vouch for the success of Pimsleur's more "immersive" approach.

The proof? I've a son-in-law who's fluent in Japanese, and he's impressed with my progress, particularly my pronunciation. Based on that, his wife, my daughter (a multilingual English/German/Dutch speaker), is starting the Pimsleur Japanese program.

My only caveat is that sometimes listening in the car makes hearing new vocabulary difficult. Occasionally I've discovered in later lessons that I was mispronouncing something. Or I've had to research online to figure out what a specific word was.

On the other hand, trial and error is exactly the process a child goes through. So I'm not complaining.

Final note: Once I finish level three Japanese, I've convinced a friend to tackle Pimsleur Russian with me next!
