Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. Practice for vocabulary introduced in previous lessons is included in each lesson. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension, and on learning to speak Italian.

The Italian Language
Italian is the official language of Italy and San Marino, and one of the official languages of Switzerland, Croatia, and Slovenia. Italian is spoken by about 58 million people in Italy, 24,000 in San Marino, 840,000 in Switzerland, another million in other European countries, and approximately 5 million in North and South America. Historically, Italian is a daughter language of Latin. Italian uses the Roman alphabet and the pronunciation of the language follows the spelling very closely.

          Comments about Italian I Q&S:

I am very pleased with this product. I especially like that I can listen to the same CD over and over until I get it all right. I think it would help a lot if you already speak another language (I speak French and Spanish) because the grammar is easier to understand if you are already familiar with things such as verb conjugations, masculine and feminine etc. The CD doesn't explain the grammar and I just kept thinking I was glad I have a good understanding of grammar. With that said, I just love speaking Italian. This is a great product.

            Comments about Italian I Q&S:

Quick & Simple Italian is an excellent program for building a basic foundation for learning the language. It is highly suggested for someone who wishes to travel to Italy for either business or pleasure. It only requires a 30 minute/day commitment. If you find yourself struggling with a certain lesson (as I have) just keep doing your daily 30 minutes and it will start to become natural and easy. I have found it very easy to integrate into my schedule as it is portable audio. I find it fun to use as well. For me, it feels more like a game than work.

I have used other language tools for tourists and they usually just teach broken-down basic phrases. This is not the ideal way to communicate with native fluent speakers as you will have a difficult time understanding most of what they say. What seperates this program from others is that you are interacting with fluent speakers in a fluid and organic away. After some time and practice you will find yourself understanding what they say even if they are speaking fast. This is especially important as Italian speakers have a tendancy to run words together.

The Quick & Simple programs will teach you enough language to have the survival basics to get by in a foreign country. The lessons are NOT random phrases. They utilize realistic conversations and deal with issues that are relevant for travelers. I would give yourself about 2 weeks to fully integrate these lessons before traveling.
