The Italian Language
Italian is the official language of Italy and San Marino, and one of the official languages of Switzerland, Croatia, and Slovenia. Italian is spoken by about 58 million people in Italy, 24,000 in San Marino, 840,000 in Switzerland, another million in other European countries, and approximately 5 million in North and South America. Historically, Italian is a daughter language of Latin. Italian uses the Roman alphabet and the pronunciation of the language follows the spelling very closely.

Comments about Italian Phase 1, Unit 16-20:

The language program is excellent, the best I've tried by far. The app is terrible. It drains the battery because you can't turn off the screen, if you try to do anything else on another app it turns off, it crashes a lot, you have to log out and log back in to get the new software you bought, the buttons don't work for a while when you first open it, and the user interface is dark and ugly. Great software like this deserves a great app.

Pros

  • Good Repetition
  • Ok Amt New Mat Ea Lesson
  • Short Lessons

Cons

  • Some Vocab Not Helpful

Best Uses

  • Brain Function

Comments about Italian Phase 1, Unit 16-20:

Good repetition. But could use more breakdown on some words and less on others.

Some words are really hard to "hear". For example "questa sera" sounds like "questa SADA" I don't think that's right!

I like the lessons being under 30 minutes.

The grammar trips me up - it's the little words - the prepositions and articles - when to use what and in what order.

Service and delivery comments:

I'd like to know what I'm saying when I do the reading lessons.
It would be nice to have a "slow down" key where the speakers would say a word or phrase more slowly...at my request. I need this when the lesson is new to me - as I'm getting more familiar with the lesson I won't need it as much.
No one makes an English/Italian (and Ital/Eng) dictionary with good pronunciation. Maybe you could!

Comments about Italian Phase 1, Unit 16-20:

I love how the program builds on itself, with a lot of repetition and chances to get it right. It bugged me at first that I couldn't see the words/phrases as I was learning them, but have since come to realize that this is forcing me to really pay attention to my pronunciation, without any preconceived notions of how I think things SHOULD sound.
