The Italian Language
Italian is the official language of Italy and San Marino, and one of the official languages of Switzerland, Croatia, and Slovenia. Italian is spoken by about 58 million people in Italy, 24,000 in San Marino, 840,000 in Switzerland, another million in other European countries, and approximately 5 million in North and South America. Historically, Italian is a daughter language of Latin. Italian uses the Roman alphabet and the pronunciation of the language follows the spelling very closely.

The App for Pimsleur has no volume on my iPone.
It can't be turned up and sounds like a whisper. All of my other apps work with full volume and needs turned down. Your app's software has not volume control. I called Pimsleur and was told to delete the app and re-download it. Nothing happened. I have use many different headphones and my friends have tried it to no avail. It is worthless to me unless it used in a silent room.
          It is worthless to me.

Comments about Italian Phase 1, Unit 11-15:

I use Pimsleur Italian in the car. My usual drive is less than one full lesson, but I tend to go through it two times anyway, and the overlap works well for me.

Some of the 'call-and-respond' portions at the end of the lesson have a subtle bit of humor to them, and I like that. It's fun.

The reading portion does not fit with the lesson directly, but it does give one a chance to see the way words are written and pronounced, they are short, and I think useful. At the very least, I have more confidence when at an Italian restaurant (here in the States).

I suspect no one product can provide a full experience. I am also using DuoLingo to learn Italian, and the approach there is different and so far, complimentary. Pimsleur, especially in the car, is pure audio and works for me.

I am learning Italian just for fun. I plan to continue buying the Pimsleur product. I think the cost is appropriate for the product, and would not like to see it become much more complicated.

Comments about Italian Phase 1, Unit 11-15:

I have never had much success or been able to "stick to it" with language learning. At 50 I thought I was too old to learn even a little bit of a foreign language. But this system teaches you to learn how to hear and speak a language first rather than read it and for me this has been fun and exciting. It's not a "video game" and uses lots of repetition but for me it is helping the language to "stick". I am pausing the audio often but by the time I finish each lesson I feel I am succeeding!
