Italian is the official language of Italy and San Marino, and an official language of Switzerland, Croatia, and Slovenia. It is spoken by about 58 million in Italy, 24,000 in San Marino, 840,000 in Switzerland, another million in other European countries, and 5 million in North and South America.

The Pimsleur® Method has worked for millions all over the world. Totally portable; simple to use; Pimsleur works so you don’t have to. This complete Italian course includes all of Levels, I, II, III, and IV – 60 hours of spoken language practice and 4 hours of reading instruction. With this product you start from zero, learning first survival phrases and vocabulary, and eventually progressing to a high-intermediate level of speaking and understanding Italian.. By Phase 4 you will be confidently using a broad range of conversational language skills with near-native pronunciation. Every lesson contains an introductory conversation and isolated vocabulary and structures, as well as full practice of all vocabulary introduced. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension, and on learning to speak Italian.

At the completion of this course, you’ll speak confidently using your wide-ranging vocabulary, and experience the language and culture with a deepening insight into a new world. Reading Lessons are included at the end of Unit 30 for each Phase. These lessons, which total about four hours, are designed to first give you practice sounding out Italian, then to progress to reading for meaning. They also provide extensive additional vocabulary. You’ll be reading Italian with the ease and flexibility of a native speaker. A PDF file containing the combined Reading Booklets to be used with the audio lessons is included.Italian Phases 1-4 includes the new Italian IV, 30-unit course, that replaces the Italian Plus 10-unit course.Italian Phases 1-4 includes the new Italian IV, 30-unit course, that replaces the Italian Plus 10-unit course.

I bought the CD set of sixteen Italian lessons in preparation for a vacation in Italy last year. They were great! I used them in my car on my 40 minute commute to work - made the traffic bearable and me understandable to the Italians I met in Italy.
Now we are planning a longer vacation to Italy sometime next year and I am using this purchase on my iPad on my daily commute. I love engaging in conversation with the Pimsleur voices and hearing my own ability to speak Italian improve each week.
I find I have to make time for the reading lessons in groups of 2 or 3. Other than that, I would recommend this method to anyone who wants to learn to speak a foreign language without painful declensions and conjugations!

      Comments about Italian Phases 1-4:

I use the product daily as advised. It is a great way to familiarize with words, expressions, pronunciation. It is a very accommodating system. While the methodology calls for listening and repeat, there are times I wish I could see the word. But I am here to learn and not change a proven method

        Comments about Italian I-IV:

Italian 1-4 was purchased as a Christmas gift for a loved one. I noticed the incredible savings offered during the 50th anniversary sale, and was immediately convinced the time to buy was at hand. A bit of a shipping delay occurred due to the proximity of processing and shipping to Christmas Day. However, a phone call to Customer Service along with some detail searching led to a happy ending. I received the gift before Christmas and was able to surprise my beloved. Now, we are enjoying the process of learning a new language in preparation for a future trip to Italy and Sicily. Not to mention, we are gaining a language which cannot be interpreted by the children; hee-hee. Thanks for the support and the knowledge.

          Comments about Italian Phases 1-4:

I have been a student of Italian for many years but the only program that consistently helps me with my ability to speak is the Pimsleur Italian Program. Not only does it correctly and adeptly insert advanced grammar techniques I have studied, it does so in a thought provoking manner. What is so crucial is the manner in which repitition with the program has aided by ability to speak with ease and comfort and with the proper pronunciation. Pimsleur is unmatched in my experience in the ability to enhance and improve anyone's proper pronunciation. The compliments I receive when traveling are incredible. I cannot wait for a lesson 5 to become available.

            Comments about Italian Phases 1-4:

I have a long commute, so I listen to lessons to an from work. Usually in the morning, but if I'm not too tired after work, I review the lesson. It works out great.

My pronunciation is near perfect, so I'm told by native speakers I have encountered. I like being able to concentrate on the listening and speaking skills.

This is the 3rd language I have purchased from Pimsleur. Previously I have gone through the full German course, the Mandarin Chinese course and now I'm on my way through l'italiano. Magnifico!
