The Easiest and Fastest Way to Learn Irish
Whether you want to travel, communicate with friends or colleagues, reconnect with family, or just understand more of what’s going on in the world around you, learning Irish will expand your horizons and immeasurably enrich your life.

The best part is that it doesn’t have to be difficult or take years to master. Thirty minutes a day is all it takes, and we get you speaking right from the first day. Pimsleur courses use a scientifically-proven method that puts you in control of your learning. If you’ve tried other language learning methods but found they simply didn’t stick, then you owe it to yourself to give Pimsleur a try.

Why Pimsleur?

- Cost-effective – Less expensive than classes or immersion, and features all native speakers.

What’s Included?
- 10, 30-minute audio lessons

What You’ll Learn
In these 10 lessons, you’ll cover the basics: saying hello, asking for or giving information, scheduling a meal or a meeting, asking for or giving basic directions, and much more. You’ll be able to handle minimum courtesy requirements, understand much of what you hear, and be understood at a beginning level, but with near-native pronunciation skills.

Notes are provided to give you further insight into the Irish language and culture. A Notes booklet is also included in PDF format.

The Pimsleur Method
We make no secret of what makes this powerful method work so well. Paul Pimsleur spent his career researching and perfecting the precise elements anyone can use to learn a language quickly and easily. Here are a few of his “secrets”:

The Principle of Anticipation
In the nanosecond between a cue and your response, your brain has to work to come up with the right word. Having to do this boosts retention, and cements the word in your mind.

Core Vocabulary
Words, phrases, and sentences are selected for their usefulness in everyday conversation. We don’t overwhelm you with too much, but steadily increase your ability with every lesson.

Graduated Interval Recall
Reminders of new words and structures come up at the exact interval for maximum retention and storage into your long-term memory.

Organic Learning
You work on multiple aspects of the language simultaneously. We integrate grammar, vocabulary, rhythm, melody, and intonation into every lesson, which allows you to experience the language as a living, expressive form of human culture.

Learning in Context
Research has shown that learning new words in context dramatically accelerates your ability to remember. Every scene in every Pimsleur lesson is set inside a conversation between two people. There are no drills, and no memorization necessary for success.

Active Participation
The Pimsleur Method + active learner participation = success. This method works with every language and every learner who follows it. You gain the power to recall and use what you know, and to add new words easily, exactly as you do in English.

The Irish Language
Irish and English are the official languages of Ireland. The three major dialects of Irish are: Connemara (in the west of Ireland and around the city of Galway), Munster (spoken in Counties Kerry and Cork), and Ulster (spoken in County Donegal). Pimsleur's Irish teaches the Munster dialect.

Even though I used my particular product as a refresher, this method works really well, and has the least impact on a busy schedule. Unforunately, 10 lessons are all that is available for my particular choice. It got me back on track with pronounciation and the basics within a month, however. Very effective.

I have done 4 languages (full 90 lessons) and find it the very best way to learn a language. Irish is by nature extremely difficult to learn but Pimsleur's approach is far above anything out there. However only 10 lessons are available and this is woefully inadequate. There is nothing else out there beyond the 10 Pimsleur lessons that are worth the trouble. So Pimsleur, please get busy. Even if is a low volume seller, you do have an ethical responsibility to continue this superior program.

Comments about Irish, Compact:

I keep a CD in my player and play it whenever I am working in the kitchen. Sometimes I sit and actually concentrate on the lesson (the best way) but even having it run in the background without complete attention helps my ear. I don't go thru the lessons as quickly as they seem to think it should take--it takes me several playings to feel I have mastered a particular lesson--but no matter, I'm going at my own pace.
I wish there was a printed version though, because sometimes I'm not sure of the ending sound on a word or phrase. It can be hard to distinguish, say, m from n.
Overall, I like the program.

Unit 1 was great. There has got to be more!

Comments about Irish Phase 1, Units 1-10:

I've been using this product for the past 3 days and my experience is doing great as I learn the language and how to pronounce them with the help of the native speakers word by word. What makes it great is that is triggers your mind to remember phrases you learned a while ago, which challenges you to remember fast, although I personally pause the track to remember; but that's the trick! 30 minutes per day is all you need and I am glad that I've been progressing quickly. And if I had to mention 1 thing that is not so great about this product in particular is that you only get 8 lessons. I'm sadden to know that it's all that they have for the moment. Pimsleur, please make more!

Comments about Irish Phase 1, Units 1-10:

Pimsleur courses really work for me. Each lesson builds on the previous one. Just a few minutes a day of listening to the language and it gradually sinks in.
Just wish you had more lessons available in Irish.

Comments about Irish Phase 1, Units 1-10:

I was concerned at first about not having any written language to deal with, but once I got started, I loved it. Irish spelling is so complex, and I think it will help to get comfortable with the spoken language before I tackle reading and writing. My favorite thing about this course is that, because it's all audio, I can do it while I'm washing dishes, folding laundry, etc. I'm a single mom, full time student, very busy, and this was easy to fit into my schedule. It's also in very manageable, short lessons.
