Description

Includes 30 lessons and reading instruction (16 hours) as MP3 download, plus PDF user's guide and reading booklet

Hebrew, a Semitic language, is the official language of Israel. It was once considered a dead language with no native speakers, although it remained in use for liturgical purposes. Hebrew was revived as a spoken language in the mid 19th century and today is spoken by over 5 million in Israel.

The Pimsleur® Method is scientifically proven to be your fastest route to nearnative fluency. Hebrew Phase 3 includes another 15 hours of spoken language practice and one additional hour of reading instruction, and is designed to be used after completion of Phases 1 and 2.

  • The beginning lessons of Phase 3 offer you the chance to expand your vocabulary and increase your fluency to an even higher level. You’ll gain experience participating in many informal and some formal discussions on practical, social, and semiprofessional topics. You’ll skillfully form longer, more complex sentences, and most importantly, you’ll find yourself being understood, even by native speakers unused to dealing with foreigners. You’ll be able to join in conversations effortlessly, confident of being understood.
  • In the next 10 lessons of Phase 3 your skills will show everincreasing mastery of the language. Speaking with grace and complete naturalness, you’ll enjoy fluid conversations on many new subjects. Delving deeper into cultural norms and situations, you’ll find yourself responding effortlessly, and able to choose from a wide accumulation of vocabulary and structures.
  •  In the final 10 lessons of Phase 3, you’re nearing fluency with agile responses, and a naturalsounding, nearnative accent. You’re able to utilize the language in subtle ways, and speak using past, present, and future tenses. Selfconfidence soars as you experience the language and culture; no longer as a foreigner, but with a deepening insight into an expanding new world.

Reading Lessons are included at the end of Unit 30. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to give you practice reading Hebrew and to provide vocabulary. Before you know it, you’ll be reading Hebrew with the ease and flexibility of a native speaker. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

Comments about Hebrew Phase 3, Units 1-30:

My memory retention of aural information is bad. I have to get new information slowly and repetititively. Hebrew Phase 3 did that for me. I know a lot of Hebrew, but I lack a lot of words and I trip up on the grammar a lot. Hebrew Phase 3 helped me on that too. I could replay the conversations so I could pick up on the words I missed, that I knew should be there. The lessions help train my brain to the speed and "slurring" of the language. One word can run into another, and I have to tune in to hear all the words that were spoken. I intend to repeat the lessions again, since 80% fluency is not enough for me.

Comments about Hebrew Phase 3, Units 1-30:

Basic, useful vocabulary reinforced with lots of drill. Having good vocabulary is one thing; being able to follow real conversation is another altogether, and therefore I especially like that the speakers use ordinary, rapid speech. You get used to hearing it that way. The topics and vocabulary are good for tourists, and especially slanted toward those who may be working professionally in the country. I started this program with a fairly good reading vocabulary in the language, but I can see where someone who has no prior vocabulary could be confused by not seeing the dialogue in print; particularly since the alphabet differs from that of English, and certain letters are pronounced differently than their English counterparts. Overall I'm satisfied and recommend the program to anyone planning a trip overseas.

Comments about Hebrew Phase 3, Units 1-30:

I have taken all three levels of Hebrew and they have been fantastic !! This is the way we learn from childhood, verbally. You always hear of people who took two years of another language while in college yet still can't speak the language with any proficiency. Pimsleur wires your brain for speaking not just latent language skills. My wife who had zero experience with Hebrew was able to do level one in 90 days ! When surrounded by native speakers she could get basic tourist needs met. Very impressive results and I recommend Pimsleur no matter what language you are learning. People could not believe that at age 44 I learned Hebrew on my own and to the level I was speaking. Thank you Dr. Pimsleur !

Be certain you follow the directions. It's very important to not do more than the 30 minutes a day or go to the next lesson until you have 80% proficiency at the level you're on. When the instructor asks you to speak a phrase or word, do so out loud. This is very important. Thank you Pimsleur I can now talk to in-laws and relatives who don't speak my primary language.

The only thing I would change is I wish they offered Hebrew beyond level III. I am so ready to learn more.

        Thank you,

Comments about Hebrew (Modern) III, Comprehensive:

Learning a new language is definitely improving my memory and thinking. I am on Level 3 with my chosen language and it is great to be easy to use daily during long car commutes to and from work. It makes the trips tolerable. I just have a plain radio in my car and would rather reinforce the learning of my chosen language than be bombarded by the same pop songs all the time. My only complaint is regarding the short conversation at the beginning of the lessons, that are rarely completely translated, even by the end sometimes. Most of the time all of the words are taught by the end of the lesson.I suppose they are used to keep us anticipating.

Sometimes I am not able to discriminate subtle sounds in the words that are similar, such as (m/n),yet friends have told me that my accent is quite good.
