Surprise your friends! Astonish your family! With Pimsleur, you’ll be speaking and understanding like a native in no time. 30 minutes a day is all it takes.  This Greek course includes all of Levels I and II – 30 hours of spoken language practice and two hours of Reading Lessons providing background on the Greek language and culture. With this product you start from zero, learning first survival phrases and vocabulary, and eventually progressing to a mid-intermediate level of speaking, understanding and reading Greek.

Every lesson contains an introductory conversation, and isolated vocabulary and structures, as well as full practice for all vocabulary introduced. Emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension.  At the completion of this course, you’ll speak confidently using your wide-ranging vocabulary, and experience the language and culture with a deepening insight into a new world.

Reading Lessons are included to provide you with an introduction to reading Greek. These lessons, which total about one hour for each Level, are designed to teach you to sound out words with correct pronunciation and accent. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

About the Greek Language

I am learning modern Greek to be able to make basic conversation while traveling in Greece. The Pimsleur courses 1-2 give intensive instruction in about 600 words (about 10 words per day). This is a good foundation, but you'll still need to learn some more words, using a language book of some sort. What I found is that I needed to repeat the whole course, starting at lesson 15 or so, to really hammer home the language into my mind. I notice there is a con below for "too fast". I don't agree that this is a con. You just need to repeat the lesson if you feel it is going too fast. Because I got the MP3 version, I can put it on my smartphone and I'll probably repeat the course (starting at lesson 15) a third time. The best thing is that the Pimsleur is a fairly effortless way to get a basic foundation with correct pronunciation. I wish they had a third course however.

I use the product nearly every day.
I like its accessibility on my IPad and phone.
I wish that there was just a little more repetition as words are introduced. I find syntax difficult for the verbs, and at no point are those gone over in a way that I could go back and review.

Comments about Greek (Modern) Phases 1-2:

Pimsleur Greek has joined my arsenal of self study tools. I am fortunate to be able to attend classes locally. However, class only meets a few times per month and different students show up at each class. The instructor is very flexible, teaching to multiple levels of fluency. I like being able to supplement with something more structured.

I listen to the lessons in a quiet environment first to be sure of my pronunciation. I follow up by listening again in my car while commuting.

I like the fact that the student is required to speak in whole sentences that include multisyllabic words.

I appreciate the reading lessons, but I really wish that each audio listen included a word list. I am both a visual and auditory learner. Seeing the words helps me to learn them.
