What You’ll Learn
This program includes all of German Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 – 60 hours of spoken language practice and 4 hours of reading instruction and practice. With this program you start from zero, first learning survival phrases and vocabulary, and eventually progressing to a high-intermediate level of speaking and understanding German. Every lesson contains an introductory conversation and isolated vocabulary and structures, as well as full practice of all vocabulary introduced. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension to promote proficiency in spoken German. At the completion of this program, you’ll be speaking and understanding German with near-fluency and with impressive conversational skills.

Reading Lessons are included at the end of Unit 30 for each level. These lessons, which total about four hours, are designed to give you practice sounding out German and then to help you progress to reading for meaning. They also provide extensive additional vocabulary. You’ll be reading German with the ease and flexibility of a native speaker.

The Pimsleur Method
We make no secret of what makes this powerful method work so well. Paul Pimsleur spent his career researching and perfecting the precise elements anyone can use to learn a language quickly and easily. Here are a few of his “secrets”:

The Principle of Anticipation
In the nanosecond between a cue and your response, your brain has to work to come up with the right word. Having to do this boosts retention, and cements the word in your mind.

Core Vocabulary
Words, phrases, and sentences are selected for their usefulness in everyday conversation. We don’t overwhelm you with too much, but steadily increase your ability with every lesson.

Graduated Interval Recall
Reminders of new words and structures come up at the exact interval for maximum retention and storage into your long-term memory.

Organic Learning
You work on multiple aspects of the language simultaneously. We integrate grammar, vocabulary, rhythm, melody, and intonation into every lesson, which allows you to experience the language as a living, expressive form of human culture.

Learning in Context
Research has shown that learning new words in context dramatically accelerates your ability to remember. Every scene in every Pimsleur lesson is set inside a conversation between two people. There are no drills, and no memorization necessary for success.

Active Participation
The Pimsleur Method + active learner participation = success. This method works with every language and every learner who follows it. You gain the power to recall and use what you know, and to add new words easily, exactly as you do in English.

The German Language
German is the official language of Germany and Austria and is one of the official languages of Switzerland. It is also an official language in Belgium, Lichtenstein, and Luxembourg. Nearly 100 million people speak German as their first language: about 77 million in Germany, 8 million in Austria, and 4.5 million in Switzerland.

Comments about Pimsleur German Levels 1-4 MP3:

I am almost done with the first of the four segments of this course, and I am utterly impressed. It is the most user-friendly I have experienced. Better than Rosetta Stone for sure, and even better than the YouTube or free apps. I am not paid to write this, and honestly feel great about it. I will be going to Germany again in the near future, and am excited to be well prepared.

Comments about Pimsleur German Levels 1-4 MP3:

My work has taken me to several foreign countries so in preparation for those trips, I have used the 10 lesson French and Portuguese programs as well as Japanese level 1 30 lesson program. As I am an auditory learner, these programs worked perfectly as I would practice the lessons during my daily commute. I tried Rosetta Stone French but it required much of tbe lesson to be done on the PC which took more time out of my already busy day. The Pimsleur method wored so well for me the last time I was in Japan, I was complimented by my Japanese host on my Japanese so that indicated to me the quality of the learning. I'm currently working on German and again the Pimsleur method works perfectly.

Comments about Pimsleur German Levels 1-4 MP3:

I have really enjoyed the program so far. I go through each lesson a minimum of 4 times before proceeding. The phrases are repeated enough so that I can absorb parts and put them together, that works best for me. I do wish the speakers would speak a little slower at times, and enunciate clearer.

I used this in the car and walking to places. I was pleasantly surprised to see that I really enjoyed this.

I do wish that there was a script or a list of words mentioned in the courses so that I can look back at them.
