What You’ll Learn
Builds upon skills taught in Pimsleur’s German Levels 1 and 2.

In the first 10 lessons, you will expand your vocabulary and increase your fluency to an even higher level. You’ll gain experience participating in many informal and some formal discussions on practical, social, and semiprofessional topics. You’ll skillfully form longer, more complex sentences, and most importantly, you’ll find yourself being understood, even by native speakers unused to dealing with foreigners. You’ll be able to join in conversations eagerly, confident of being understood.

In the next 10 lessons, your skills will demonstrate ever-increasing mastery of German. Speaking with grace and complete naturalness, you’ll enjoy fluid conversations on many new subjects. Delving deeper into cultural norms and situations, you’ll find yourself responding effortlessly, and able to choose from a wide accumulation of vocabulary and structures.

In the final 10 lessons, you’re nearing fluency with agile responses, and a natural sounding, near-native accent. You’re able to utilize the language in subtle ways, and speak using past, present, and future tenses. Self-confidence soars as you no longer experience the language and culture as a foreigner, but as someone with a deepening insight into the German-speaking world.

Reading Lessons are included at the end of Lesson 30. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to give you practice reading German, to provide vocabulary and improve pronunciation. Before you know it, you’ll be reading German with the ease and flexibility of a native speaker.

The Pimsleur Method
We make no secret of what makes this powerful method work so well. Paul Pimsleur spent his career researching and perfecting the precise elements anyone can use to learn a language quickly and easily. Here are a few of his “secrets”:

The Principle of Anticipation
In the nanosecond between a cue and your response, your brain has to work to come up with the right word. Having to do this boosts retention, and cements the word in your mind.

Core Vocabulary
Words, phrases, and sentences are selected for their usefulness in everyday conversation. We don’t overwhelm you with too much, but steadily increase your ability with every lesson.

Graduated Interval Recall
Reminders of new words and structures come up at the exact interval for maximum retention and storage into your long-term memory.

Organic Learning
You work on multiple aspects of the language simultaneously. We integrate grammar, vocabulary, rhythm, melody, and intonation into every lesson, which allows you to experience the language as a living, expressive form of human culture.

Learning in Context
Research has shown that learning new words in context dramatically accelerates your ability to remember. Every scene in every Pimsleur lesson is set inside a conversation between two people. There are no drills, and no memorization necessary for success.

Active Participation
The Pimsleur Method + active learner participation = success. This method works with every language and every learner who follows it. You gain the power to recall and use what you know, and to add new words easily, exactly as you do in English.

The German Language
German is the official language of Germany and Austria and is one of the official languages of Switzerland. It is also an official language in Belgium, Lichtenstein, and Luxembourg. Nearly 100 million people speak German as their first language: about 77 million in Germany, 8 million in Austria, and 4.5 million in Switzerland.

Tech Talk
- CDs are formatted for playing in all CD players, including car players, and users can copy files for use in iTunes or Windows Media Player.

Comments about Pimsleur German Level 3 MP3:

I've been described as one of the world's leading sceptics so it was with some trepidation that I bought my first Pimsleur course, "knowing" full well that there would be no way it could really live up to what I thought was the hype that surrounded the method. I've been proven wrong. It walks the walk to back up the talk. I've made more progress in the last few months than I ever thought possible. Judging by the way this method has been worked out, I can only conclude Mr Pimsleur was a bone fide genius. What's more, I'm enjoying it, which alone is a lot more than I can say about other methods I've tried.

    Service and delivery comments:

Customer service has been prompt, efficient and cheerful and I was compelled to thank my Pimsleur contact for the extreme helpfulness she had provided.

Comments about Pimsleur German Level 3 MP3:

I am enjoying the German program. I like the repetitions (could even be more) and the spacing of the repetitions is good. One thing that frustrates me at times is that the response time is a bit shorty before the correct response starts. When I can pause it, I am able to mentally process, but often cannot and would have produced the correct response if it had given me the time.

Comments about Pimsleur German Level 3 MP3:

I play these lessons daily on my commute. Sometimes I go over one twice. Finally on this third set, the patterns in German have gotten familiar as well as the pronunciation of the voices. My progress is faster. I look up new words with Google Translate as it helps me to know what they look like written form in order to memorize the new vocabulary. I am enjoying references to locations around München in particular, since I have been there and will return to the area. I appreciate the way phone numbers are being taught, although my native speaker friend says that people say the numbers singularly much like we do. Oh and I love the male speaker's voice. Perhaps there is some reason for it, but it seems there is this proclivity to make up sentences that feel like I am saying something like she sells sea shells down by the shining seashore. These sentences feel confusing with regard to word order and my mouth feels all twisted up. So I repeat them until they run smoothly. This helps. Well, I am liking this and will be up for level 4 soon. I am looking forward to testing it out during my next stay in Deutschland. Thanks!
