This is my 3rd language course.

I've used Pimsleur since 1998 (cassettes). I lived in Brazil and use Portuguese 1 & II. It was a great help and provided a good foundation on pronunciation.

When I move back to USA, I took 1 & 2 Spanish (CD's). I travel to Latin America 3-4 times a year. I can always communicate. Probably not fluent, but I can take care of what I need to .

Now, I found out that I was going to Paris for a week, so I thought I would try Pimsleur French. (MP3). I had about 4 weeks notice that I would be traveling to France, so I started with lessons 1-5. I then bought lessons 6-10. I'm only on lesson 9, but I think it will be worthwhile, just so I can get by with some basic communication. I will probably buy lessons 11-15 and then will probably be through with French.

I like the way I can purchase 5 lessons at a time. This may be my one and only trip to France, so when I return, I will probably not continue with the French courses.

I have never regretted any of the money I've spent nor the time I invested in Pimsleur.

In short, whatever good I got from the few lessons I bought wasn't worth all I had to go through, (or the amount I paid)

Comments about French Phase 1, Unit 01-05:

I like to walk several hours at a time, and I study languages while doing so. I bought Mandarin, Spanish, and am now studying French, having completed unit 29 of French II. I listen to each unit twice and try to complete two units a day. It is very enjoyable knowing I will be able to converse on a rudimentary level with the natives. BUT IT COULD BE BETTER. Especially in French, the pronunciation is complicated. The form of the verbs sound the same but are sealed differently. I think it would be helpful if, in your reading lessons you tracked the pronunciations OF THE WORDS AND THEIR FORMS USED IN THE LESSON. voudrais vs voudrez, e.g.
