The Easiest and Fastest Way to Learn Farsi Persian

Whether you want to travel, communicate with friends or colleagues, reconnect with family, or just understand more of what’s going on in the world around you, learning Farsi Persian will expand your horizons and immeasurably enrich your life.

The best part is that it doesn’t have to be difficult or take years to master. Thirty minutes a day is all it takes, and we get you speaking right from the first day. Pimsleur courses use a scientifically-proven method that puts you in control of your learning. If you’ve tried other language learning methods but found they simply didn’t stick, then you owe it to yourself to give Pimsleur a try.

Why Pimsleur?
- Quick + Easy – Only 30 minutes a day.
- Portable + Flexible – Core lessons can be done anytime, anywhere, and easily fit into your busy life.
- Proven Method – Works when other methods fail.
- Self-Paced – Go fast or go slow – it’s up to you.
- Based in Science – Developed using proven research on memory and learning.
- Cost-effective – Less expensive than classes or immersion, and features all native speakers.
- Genius – Triggers your brain’s natural aptitude to learn.
- Works for everyone – Recommended for ages 13 and above.

What’s Included?
- 30, 30-minute audio lessons
- 60 minutes of reading instruction to provide you with an introduction to reading Farsi Persian designed to teach you to sound out words with correct pronunciation and accent
- In total, 16 hours of audio, all featuring native speakers
- a Reading Booklet and a User’s Guide

What You’ll Learn
In the first 10 lessons, you’ll cover the basics: saying hello, asking for or giving information, scheduling a meal or a meeting, asking for or giving basic directions, and much more. You’ll be able to handle minimum courtesy requirements, understand much of what you hear, and be understood at a beginning level, but with near-native pronunciation skills.

In the next 10 lessons, you’ll build on what you’ve learned. Expand your menu, increase your scheduling abilities from general to specific, start to deal with currency and exchanging money, refine your conversations and add over a hundred new vocabulary items. You’ll understand more of what you hear, and be able to participate with speech that is smoother and more confident.

In the final 10 lessons, you’ll be speaking and understanding at an intermediate level. In this phase, more directions are given in the Farsi Persian language, which moves your learning to a whole new plane. Lessons include shopping, visiting friends, going to a restaurant, plans for the evening, car trips, and talking about family. You’ll be able to speak comfortably about things that happened in the past and make plans for the future.

Reading Lessons are included at the end of Lesson 30 to provide you with an introduction to reading the Persian alphabet. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to teach you to sound out words with Farsi Persian pronunciation and accent. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

The Pimsleur Method
We make no secret of what makes this powerful method work so well. Paul Pimsleur spent his career researching and perfecting the precise elements anyone can use to learn a language quickly and easily. Here are a few of his “secrets”:

The Principle of Anticipation
In the nanosecond between a cue and your response, your brain has to work to come up with the right word. Having to do this boosts retention, and cements the word in your mind.

Core Vocabulary
Words, phrases, and sentences are selected for their usefulness in everyday conversation. We don’t overwhelm you with too much, but steadily increase your ability with every lesson.

Graduated Interval Recall
Reminders of new words and structures come up at the exact interval for maximum retention and storage into your long-term memory.

Organic Learning
You work on multiple aspects of the language simultaneously. We integrate grammar, vocabulary, rhythm, melody, and intonation into every lesson, which allows you to experience the language as a living, expressive form of human culture.

Learning in Context
Research has shown that learning new words in context dramatically accelerates your ability to remember. Every scene in every Pimsleur lesson is set inside a conversation between two people. There are no drills, and no memorization necessary for success.

Active Participation
The Pimsleur Method + active learner participation = success. This method works with every language and every learner who follows it. You gain the power to recall and use what you know, and to add new words easily, exactly as you do in English.

The Farsi Persian Language
Persian is the official language of Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. Persian has three major dialects: Farsi (spoken in Iran), Dari (spoken in Afghanistan), and Tajik (spoken in Tajikistan). Pimsleur's Farsi teaches Persian as spoken in Iran.

I have been wanting to learn Farsi for a very long time. For as long as I could remember, I had been enchanted by persian music, literature, and poetry. I stumbled upon Pimsleur and decided to give it a shot over Rosetta Stone. Not only was it cheaper, but it had better reviews. I went with Farsi Persian rather than Dari Persian (even though I am Afghan) because I find the Iranian diction to be more crisper and enjoyable. The first lesson showed me what a wonderful decision I made by buying Pimsleur. I am only on lesson 12 of 30 and I already have impressed my family and friends with the wealth of knowledge I have acquired.
I am begging you, Pimsleur, to continue making more and more CD's. I am on my way to becoming a fluent speaker with your help and I hope other people reading this review give you a chance. Farsi is a beautiful language and it is useful because it is very similar to Afghan Dari. I recommend buying Persian Farsi also because you can find many more supplemental items on the internet to further your education in this language, while finding stuff for Dari is more challenging.
Thank you for giving me the first lesson but PLEASE MAKE MORE CDS!!!!!!!!! You are incredible and I really hope that more people discover you. 'Lotfan' and 'Merci'!

Phase 1 is great, however with there being no Phase 2 or 3, it is insufficient in reaching even basic goals in learning farsi. I would not recommend beginning the Pimsleur program for farsi until they add Phase 2 and 3. Pimsleur is great and the system WORKS, but there needs to be more than 30 lessons for the system to be worth it.

Comments about Pimsleur Farsi Persian Level 1 MP3:

I purchased this program to learn conversational Farsi. I've been using it for a couple of months now and enjoy learning the sounds of the language first. It's great to listen to the conversations and sample dialogue to get a feel for how the natural language should sound.

Comments about Pimsleur Farsi Persian Level 1 MP3:

I'm still working through it. Problems: 1) When I go to reading lessons, if I want to go to the next one, I have to exit the program, turn it on again, and go to the main menu. I want to be able to go to the next one directly, the same as with the main lessons. 2) The pronunciation is not always clear, so I can't tell how to imitate it. For "I know" should I say nidunem or midunem? For later, birtad or bitar? 3) If the reading lessons were geared to the main lessons, with the vocabulary written out, that would help both with clarifying the pronunciation and illustrating the writing system.

Comments about Pimsleur Farsi Persian Level 1 MP3:

I always highly recommend Pimsleur courses. They are simply invaluable for building an actual "feel" for a language. The ways that the course has you interact with the language reenforces comprehension and retention, and offers a genuinely well-rounded introduction to a language. I consider language acquisition to be a factor of "feeling", in that through exposure one gains a general appreciation of word choice, tone, and sound which allow one to play with a language. Only Pimsleur can provide that type of experience in 30 minutes a day.

I am happy to hear that there will be a Farsi Level 2 in the near future. Indeed, the single biggest weakness of Pimsleur courses is that they do not always map on well to other styles of instruction, and I often find myself jaded to the more traditional "textbook and tables method" of teaching.

One of the things I have found most interesting and rewarding in the Pimsleur technique is the effortless transition from first thinking in English and then translating into Dutch to just automatically 'knowing' the correct Dutch. With Pimsleur's proprietary technology the ability to just know the proper Dutch was just there!
