Description

Includes 30 lessons and reading instruction (16 hours) as MP3 download, plus PDF user's guide and reading booklet

Persian is the official language of Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. Persian has three major dialects: Farsi (spoken in Iran), Dari (spoken in Afghanistan), and Tajik (spoken in Tajikistan). Pimsleur's Farsi teaches Persian as spoken in Iran.

The Pimsleur® Method: the easiest, fastest way to learn a new language. Completely portable, easily downloadable, and lots of fun. You’ll be speaking and understanding in no time flat! Farsi Phase 1, Lessons 1-30 includes 15 hours of spoken language practice and one hour of reading instruction in thirty, 30-minute lessons.

  • In the first 10 lessons, you’ll cover the basics: saying hello, asking for or giving information, scheduling a meal or a meeting, asking for or giving basic directions, and much more. You’ll be able to handle minimum courtesy requirements, understand much of what you hear, and be understood at a beginning level, but with nearnative pronunciation skills.
  • In the next 10 lessons, you’ll build on what you’ve learned. Expand your menu, increase your scheduling abilities from general to specific, start to deal with currency and exchanging money, refine your conversations and add over a hundred new vocabulary items. You’ll understand more of what you hear, and be able to participate with speech that is smoother and more confident.
  • In the final 10 lessons of Phase 1, you’ll be speaking and understanding at an intermediate level. In this phase, more directions are given in the target language, which moves your learning to a whole new plane. Lessons include shopping, visiting friends, going to a restaurant, plans for the evening, car trips, and talking about family. You’ll be able to speak comfortably about things that happened in the past and make plans for the future.

Reading Lessons are included at the end of Unit 30 to provide you with an introduction to reading the Farsi alphabet. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to teach you to sound out words with correct pronunciation and accent. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

I have been wanting to learn Farsi for a very long time. For as long as I could remember, I had been enchanted by persian music, literature, and poetry. I stumbled upon Pimsleur and decided to give it a shot over Rosetta Stone. Not only was it cheaper, but it had better reviews. I went with Farsi Persian rather than Dari Persian (even though I am Afghan) because I find the Iranian diction to be more crisper and enjoyable. The first lesson showed me what a wonderful decision I made by buying Pimsleur. I am only on lesson 12 of 30 and I already have impressed my family and friends with the wealth of knowledge I have acquired.
I am begging you, Pimsleur, to continue making more and more CD's. I am on my way to becoming a fluent speaker with your help and I hope other people reading this review give you a chance. Farsi is a beautiful language and it is useful because it is very similar to Afghan Dari. I recommend buying Persian Farsi also because you can find many more supplemental items on the internet to further your education in this language, while finding stuff for Dari is more challenging.
Thank you for giving me the first lesson but PLEASE MAKE MORE CDS!!!!!!!!! You are incredible and I really hope that more people discover you. 'Lotfan' and 'Merci'!

Phase 1 is great, however with there being no Phase 2 or 3, it is insufficient in reaching even basic goals in learning farsi. I would not recommend beginning the Pimsleur program for farsi until they add Phase 2 and 3. Pimsleur is great and the system WORKS, but there needs to be more than 30 lessons for the system to be worth it.

    Comments about Farsi Persian, Comprehensive:

I am half American and half IraniaN but I grew up in America and didn't learn the language. I didn't want to take classes and my brother tried another product but it was of no use to him. I found pimsleur and thought I would just listen on the way home from work and see what happens. Well it happened and fast! It was so easy and effective. Iranians Tell me I have a great accent (meaning no accent) and I am able to speak so much. From zero to small conversation. I highly recommend this! I am dying for the next levels to come out!!!

    Service and delivery comments:

Make more levels. I am doing so well and I want to learn more.

I want to learn how to say things about the weather and that I'm cold or hungry or sleepy. Also the end just touched on the past tense, so more of that would help. Lastly, it would be helpful to add a vocabulary list of nouns as a bonus. Because I have learned to say "How many children do you have", so if I just had a list of nouns I could plug them into the learned phrases. So if I learned the word chair I could easily figure out how to say "How many chairs do you have"

    Thank you

I really liked this course. It was especially helpful in improving my speaking ability, which is exactly what I was looking for. I really hope they can make level 2 of Persian Farsi.

Comments about Farsi Persian Phase 1, Units 1-30:

Great and easy to learn Farsi!

I wish Pimsleur do the 2 and 3 phases as only 1 just gives you the basics. (Years ago did all 3 of French and was great)

Thank you for the hard work and great product!!!

Comments about Farsi Persian Phase 1, Units 1-30:

Farsi is a difficult language to learn but Pimsleur really broke it down. I absolutely loved this series. I wish there was a Level II and III just like all the rest. Farsi is such a vast language we really do need more. Thank you for making this language available. Living in LA it really comes in handy.
