The Easiest and Fastest Way to Learn English
Whether you want to travel, communicate with friends or colleagues, reconnect with family, or just understand more of what’s going on in the world around you, learning English will expand your horizons and immeasurably enrich your life.

The best part is that it doesn’t have to be difficult or take years to master. Thirty minutes a day is all it takes, and we get you speaking right from the first day. Pimsleur courses use a scientifically-proven method that puts you in control of your learning. If you’ve tried other language learning methods but found they simply didn’t stick, then you owe it to yourself to give Pimsleur a try.

Why Pimsleur?
- Quick + Easy – Only 30 minutes a day.
- Portable + Flexible – Core lessons can be done anytime, anywhere, and easily fit into your busy life.
- Proven Method – Works when other methods fail.
- Self-Paced – Go fast or go slow – it’s up to you.
- Based in Science – Developed using proven research on memory and learning.
- Cost-effective – Less expensive than classes or immersion, and features all native speakers.
- Genius – Triggers your brain’s natural aptitude to learn.
- Works for everyone – Recommended for ages 13 and above.

What’s Included?
- 30, 30-minute audio lessons
- 60 minutes of reading instruction to provide you with an introduction to reading English designed to teach you to sound out words with correct pronunciation and accent
- In total, 16 hours of audio, all featuring native speakers
- a Reading Booklet and a User’s Guide

What You’ll Learn
In the first 10 lessons, you’ll cover the basics: saying hello, asking for or giving information, scheduling a meal or a meeting, asking for or giving basic directions, and much more. You’ll be able to handle minimum courtesy requirements, understand much of what you hear, and be understood at a beginning level, but with near-native pronunciation skills.

In the next 10 lessons, you’ll build on what you’ve learned. Expand your menu, increase your scheduling abilities from general to specific, start to deal with currency and exchanging money, refine your conversations and add over a hundred new vocabulary items. You’ll understand more of what you hear, and be able to participate with speech that is smoother and more confident.

In the final 10 lessons, you’ll be speaking and understanding at an intermediate level. In this phase, more directions are given in the English language, which moves your learning to a whole new plane. Lessons include shopping, visiting friends, going to a restaurant, plans for the evening, car trips, and talking about family. You’ll be able to speak comfortably about things that happened in the past and make plans for the future.

Reading instruction is included after Lesson 30 to provide you with an introduction to reading English. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to teach you to sound out words with English pronunciation and accent. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

The Pimsleur Method
We make no secret of what makes this powerful method work so well. Paul Pimsleur spent his career researching and perfecting the precise elements anyone can use to learn a language quickly and easily. Here are a few of his “secrets”:

The Principle of Anticipation
In the nanosecond between a cue and your response, your brain has to work to come up with the right word. Having to do this boosts retention, and cements the word in your mind.

Core Vocabulary
Words, phrases, and sentences are selected for their usefulness in everyday conversation. We don’t overwhelm you with too much, but steadily increase your ability with every lesson.

Graduated Interval Recall
Reminders of new words and structures come up at the exact interval for maximum retention and storage into your long-term memory.

Organic Learning
You work on multiple aspects of the language simultaneously. We integrate grammar, vocabulary, rhythm, melody, and intonation into every lesson, which allows you to experience the language as a living, expressive form of human culture.

Learning in Context
Research has shown that learning new words in context dramatically accelerates your ability to remember. Every scene in every Pimsleur lesson is set inside a conversation between two people. There are no drills, and no memorization necessary for success.

Active Participation
The Pimsleur Method + active learner participation = success. This method works with every language and every learner who follows it. You gain the power to recall and use what you know, and to add new words easily, exactly as you do in your native language.

The English Language
Approximately 375 million people speak English around the world and there are more than 50 countries where English is the primary language spoken, including in Australia, Canada, the Commonwealth Caribbean, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. This course teaches Standard American English as spoken in the US. Instruction is in Russian.

Tech Talk
- CDs are formatted for playing in all CD players, including car players, and users can copy files for use in iTunes or Windows Media Player.

Tomorrow I leave to live in Moldova with my girlfriend. I have studied the Russian tracks, she has studied the English tracks. I have studied 6 languages.
THIS IS THE ONLY PROGRAM THAT WORKS AND I HAVE TRIED MANY. IT IS BRILLIANT. SIMPLY BRILLIANT. And Katerina loves hers as well. Typical Russian. Studies like crazy all the time.

Comments about Pimsleur English for Russian Speakers Level 1 MP3:

I chose the Russian program. 90 lessons. Downloaded from the website to my computer and then into my IPod. I sit with my IPod opened to the note section with the title of Russian. Underneath the heading I write the number of the lesson followed by any russian vocabulary or phrases that I heard new on that lesson along with using the English alphabet to mimick the Russian pronunciation as best I can while accumulating a vocabulary list for that particular lesson. Each lesson is labeled by number and separated by a space from the preceding. This way I can review my vocabulary either on my IPad or on my IPhone at my leisure since they are synced. When listening to the tapes, I will pause the tape as necessary to make sure that I have an opportunity to repeat the word or phrase and to write down any new vocabulary for review later. Any time I am asked to say something in Russian I pause the tape to make sure I am not rushed before the tape gives me the proper pronunciation and offer my own recollections before hearing the proper one. The lesson is properly structured to provide necessary pauses but usually when I am hearing the new vocabulary or grammer for the first time I hesitate longer than the tape might otherwise allow. "Don't tase... er push me bro!"

The program is wonderfully organized around core language needs and build progressively from that core in a logical fashion with constant review to mimic the natural language learning process. It is extraordinarily efficient to start and stop the IPod whenever I want to focus on something just said. And during the day I can always turn to my IPhone or IPad to review vocabulary. My first run through a new lesson is starting and stopping frequently to make sure I catch everything. I will commonly review each lesson twice again which by the third time I have fairly well mastered the material before moving to the next. However, as the program has been set up, there will always be a review of earlier information in the first half of the next lesson before moving on to new information. And although it is probably not essential that one start and stop the way I do because of the frequent review nature of the program, I'm just a little OCD and want to make sure I catch it the first time. And as necessary I can always refer to my vocabulary notes if I get stuck on something before listening to the answer. Its just my preference. Regardless, I am extraordinarily impressed and pleased with the organization of this program and my progress in it. Russian isn't an easy language to learn but this program when broken down in the way that I have reduces the stress of forgetting things or remembering too slowly. Not being able to come up with the right answer and pronunciation before the narrator provides it is like flunking the test. So I give myself as much time as I need and provide myself as necessary with the "open book" test. Although most of the time I don't need to refer to my notes at all. This process the way I have described it offers me better control over the process and I believe significantly improves the satisfaction and efficiency. I'm already after the 5th lesson finding myself practicing in my head frequently during the day. The other day a university history professor was telling me about how much he enjoys Russian history so I spoke to him in Russian with a few of the phrases that I had learned. His jaw dropped. He was not expecting that and in fact could not speak any Russian himself. Did I say I was pleased? Did I say I was having fun? Well I am. Can't wait til I finish the whole program, all 90 lessons which I intend to do in the next 9 months. But I am not rushing through this. I don't move to the next lesson until I have reasonably mastered the preceding. The program doesn't suggest this level of understanding prior to moving on to the next lesson because of the standard repetition programmed into it. But it is my personal preference which increases the fun and satisfaction. And in the summer after finishing all 90 lessons and doing some skyping with native russian speaking people on one of the language exchange boards I will spend a week somewhere in eastern europe and visit the historic sites and have fun interacting with the local folks.

I purchased this course for a young orphan girl in Odessa. I sent it to her as a gift. She indicated it is very helpful to her in learning Ehglish.

On another note, I am still working through Russian I - III which are excellent. The Pimsleur method is the most effective learning system I have ever used. I recommend it to everyone I know who wants to learn a new language.

To be honest, I didn't think that I would be able to learn a foreign language at 59 years old I was wrong. With the Pimsleur system, you can't help but learn. It's easy, it's fun and it's simple.
