This course includes Lesson 1-5 from the Chinese (Mandarin) Level 1 program featuring 2.5 hours of language instruction. Each lesson provides 30 minutes of spoken language practice, with an introductory conversation, and new vocabulary and structures. Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. Practice for vocabulary introduced in previous lessons is included in each lesson. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension, and on learning to speak Mandarin Chinese.

The Mandarin Chinese Language
Over one billion people speak Chinese. The two most common dialects are Mandarin and Cantonese. They are not mutually intelligible. Mandarin is the official language in Mainland China, Taiwan, and Singapore. The Mandarin dialect is used in most Chinese schools, and in most TV programs, movies, and radio stations throughout the country, even in Guangzhou (formerly Canton), where people speak Cantonese in their daily lives. Mandarin is one of the six official languages of the United Nations.

Comments about Pimsleur Chinese (Mandarin) Level 1 Lessons 1-5 MP3:

A great system. It allows you to move on a daily basis at your own pace repeating lessons as one grows familiar with the unfamiliar sounds and words.
It took me 12 days to get comfortable and reasonably competent with the first 5 lessons. I am now working on the next 10 lessons at a similar pace.
The proof of my success will be known in late September when I visit Kunming.

Comments about Pimsleur Chinese (Mandarin) Level 1 Lessons 1-5 MP3:

I was pleasantly surprised, for at first I was a sceptic and only purchased one lesson. I am an elder and expected learning a new language to be hard, but the method used by Pimsleur is truly the way we originally learned as children, and as such sticks with you so much easier than the traditional way I was taught in college. I had to do the first lessons manyl times but found myself after a few tries completely remembering.
I use the lessons from my iPhone and sit outside often when going through a lesson. I also have it on my iPad and Mac. Sometimes if I have to drive a long distance I go through the lesson while traveling. Absolutely fantastic. I plan on purchasing all the current language I am learning, for it had become fun while challenging. My wife is going to take the course, but with another language from the one I am. I simply wish I knew about this technique earlier. Thank you.

Comments about Pimsleur Chinese (Mandarin) Level 1 Lessons 1-5 MP3:

I am learning Mandarin. I am also a very technical person. When I'm learning a new language, I like to know what all the articles are, pronouns, and all that grammar stuff. I tried Rosetta Stone once, and I did learn a lot. But I struggled with it because while I knew what I was basically saying from a picture, I had no idea which part of the sentence was "the" and stuff like that. I'll probably go back to it when I'm ready to learn to read Chinese. Anyway, I like this approach because the guide explains what exactly you're saying and breaks everything down. Besides, I'm an auditory learner, so this is working out better for me anyway. Another great thing about it is that you don't have to buy the entire course at once, spending hundreds of dollars on something you're not even sure about! I like that I can purchase the lessons bit by bit as I need them. My pocket appreciates that! Also, I LOVE that I do not have to wait until I get home to crank up the computer to do my lessons! With the mobile app I can do my lessons anytime, anywhere. I also love that the advancement is not based on grades. With Rosetta Stone, I made "good grades" but I didn't completely understand the lesson. I was just good at spitting stuff back. I like being able to control when I advance--not when the computer thinks I'm ready. I've done the first lesson twice, and moved on to the second, but I'm going to go back to the first lesson again. I also like that the lessons are only 30 minutes. I always felt like the lessons on the other program took FOREVER! It was one reason that lead to me ditching it.

Comments about Pimsleur Chinese (Mandarin) Level 1 Lessons 1-5 MP3:

This audio session for Mandarin Chinese was so helpful, it makes learning a language convenient. I was also a lot of fun, the first for lessons are very easy, but things really start to pick up in Unit 5 so be aware, you may have to listen to that one a few times.
I wish they had some visual curriculum available to go with the audio as an option to change things up from time to time.
