What You’ll Learn
Builds upon skills taught in Pimsleur’s Arabic (Eastern) Level 1.

In the first 10 lessons you’ll begin using the past tense. Structures become more complex and informal speech is introduced. Soon you’ll take part in conversations about ordering meals, shopping, and local tourist attractions. As you progress, your fluency will increase as your vocabulary expands.

The next 10 lessons will allow you to further combine and build upon known elements, and produce longer and more complex sentences. You’ll be discussing business and social activities, expressing your interests, and talking about the weather.

In the final 10 lessons you’ll double your vocabulary and have several hundred structures to draw upon. You’ll learn to express yourself with relative structures – faster, slower, etc. You’ll be able to ask for assistance in many situations and to ask for directions to various locations. You’ll explore sports and leisure activities, manage changing money and banking, and discuss travel plans. By the end of the program, you’ll be speaking at a mid-intermediate level with near-native pronunciation, and you’ll be comfortable meeting most social demands and limited job requirements.

Reading Lessons, which build upon the reading skills acquired in Level 1, are included at the end of Lesson 30. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to give you practice reading Eastern Arabic.

The Pimsleur Method
We make no secret of what makes this powerful method work so well. Paul Pimsleur spent his career researching and perfecting the precise elements anyone can use to learn a language quickly and easily. Here are a few of his secrets:

The Principle of Anticipation
In the nanosecond between a cue and your response, your brain has to work to come up with the right word. Having to do this boosts retention, and cements the word in your mind.

Core Vocabulary
Words, phrases, and sentences are selected for their usefulness in everyday conversation. We don’t overwhelm you with too much, but steadily increase your ability with every lesson.

Graduated Interval Recall
Reminders of new words and structures come up at the exact interval for maximum retention and storage into your long-term memory.

Organic Learning
You work on multiple aspects of the language simultaneously. We integrate grammar, vocabulary, rhythm, melody, and intonation into every lesson, which allows you to experience the language as a living, expressive form of human culture.

Learning in Context
Research has shown that learning new words in context dramatically accelerates your ability to remember. Every scene in every Pimsleur lesson is set inside a conversation between two people. There are no drills, and no memorization necessary for success.

Active Participation
The Pimsleur Method + active learner participation = success. This method works with every language and every learner who follows it. You gain the power to recall and use what you know, and to add new words easily, exactly as you do in English.

The Eastern Arabic Language
Arabic is the world's 6th most common language with 295 million native speakers. It is also the liturgical language of 1.6 billion Muslims as it is the language of the Qur’an, the holy book of Islam.
Eastern Arabic is the dialect spoken in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine. Eastern Arabic is also very well understood in the eastern and southeastern parts of the Arab world -- Arabia, the Gulf Region, and Iraq. Pimsleur’s Eastern Arabic is based on the dialect of Damascus, Syria.

Comments about Arabic (East) Phase 2, Units 1-30:

I use Pimsleur on my commute to work, share can usually complete a 30 minute daily audio lesson.

Pimsleur's programs are great to practice relevant words and phrases right away. Native speakers have told me my pronunciation is very clear after 6 months of practice.

Service and delivery comments:

I wish they would include a few more vocabulary words (adjectives & verbs for common situations) with each example conversation.

Comments about Arabic (East) Phase 2, Units 1-30:

The Pimsleur Method is excellent. I took the Italian course before I took this, which was excellent, so I do have something to compare. In the Arabic course, they rush it a bit, and they don't enunciate very clearly often, which is important because English speaking people can't often differentiate when it comes to the gutturals and glottal stops(or in fact the "s" and 't' sounds. So it takes several repeats and dicitionary look-ups before you can figure out what the instructor is saying. The presenters should listen to the Italian course to see where they can improve.

Comments about Arabic (East) Phase 2, Units 1-30:

The lessons build on what is taught in Phase 1 nicely. The pace of the lessons is faster than in Phase 1 as one would expect but there are plenty of repetitions to enforce the material.

Comments about Arabic (East) Phase 2, Units 1-30:

Great for people with a commute to work that want to improve their language skills but have to keep their eyes on the road. This couse is based on Syrian Arabic. Arabic vocabulary and pronunciation in the Gulf and North Africa differs slightly. Course is for people with a basic background in Arabic; about 1-2 college semesters worth. Lesson lengths are perfect length to keep interest.

      Service and delivery comments:

I wish Pimsleur offered the same lessons with a Gulf Arabic teacher. It would be nice if there were a few bonus lessons dedicated to words which people may encounter that differ from region to region. For example, "hotel" is "funduq" in the gulf and "nuzil" in North Africa. Product is a little expensive...luckily it came with a 10% off coupon.
