The Eastern Arabic Language
Arabic is the world's 6th most common language with 295 million native speakers. It is also the liturgical language of 1.6 billion Muslims as it is the language of the Qur’an, the holy book of Islam.
Eastern Arabic is the dialect spoken in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine. Eastern Arabic is also very well understood in the eastern and southeastern parts of the Arab world -- Arabia, the Gulf Region, and Iraq. Pimsleur’s Eastern Arabic is based on the dialect of Damascus, Syria.

    Comments about Arabic (Eastern), Conversational:

I listen to the CDs in the car after I drop my children at school. Previously, I have used the Pimsleur Brazilian Portuguese program to prepare for a work trip. I was only able to go through the first 50 lessons before leaving and it was so helpful I was eager to give Arabic a try. I wanted to challenge myself by learning a non-Romance language. Arabic is more user-friendly than I thought. I appreciate the repetitive style, but I still need to listen to most lessons twice. My friends from Kuwait and Lebanon were impressed with my pronunciation even after just the first four lessons. My only complaint would be there is a fair amount of time in several of the lessons using phrases like, "You can't speak English." Perhaps I am missing something culturally, but it isn't phrased like a question, more like a statement. I have trouble remembering it since it seems non-intuitive. Why am I going to tell someone with whom I am trying to communicate in rudimentary Arabic that they don't speak English? Just seems rude.

      Comments about Arabic (Eastern), Conversational:

I was told the Pimsleur Method was highly effective. I bought the Arabic lesson on a whim, just to sample the effectivness of the pimsleur
method. Now I'm working through course 1,on a 2nd go round so to smoooth out a few rough edges in my pronouciation
From my experience I can say the program is very quick in its layout and break down. I can easily recomend it for anyone with an itch to learn a diffrent language.
