Description
Includes 10 lessons and reading instruction on 5 CDs, plus a reading booklet
English is Ghana's official language, however, each ethnic group has a native tongue, some of which include Akan, Dagomba, Ewe, and Ga-Adangme. Twi (Akan language family) is most commonly used in the southern two-thirds of Ghana for communication. Pimsleur's Twi uses native speakers from Accra.
This Compact course provides an introduction to Twi with ten thirty-minute lessons of spoken language practice. With this product you start from zero, learning first survival phrases and vocabulary, then progressing to speaking and understanding at a functional level. Every lesson contains an introductory conversation, and isolated vocabulary and structures, as well as full practice for all vocabulary introduced. Emphasis on pronunciation and comprehension. At the completion of this course, you’ll have a basic vocabulary and speak with a near-native accent. This course provides you with a solid foundation upon which to expand your language skills. Reading Lessons begin in Unit 2 and are designed to teach you to sound out words with correct pronunciation and accent. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.
Pimsleur® equals success. Just one 30-minute lesson a day gets you speaking and understanding like no other program.

Comments about Twi Phase 1, Units 1-10:
This product works well. In only a couple days I could speak some sentences without having to refer to anything. It is nice because it is all audio, meaning that you can practice wherever and whenever, which is convenient and I felt it helps to keep you going; sometimes with other methods of learning a language it can be easy to slack because of lack of time. This makes it easier to use even with hectic schedules. As recommended by the company, I listened to one lesson a day, though I also listened to the same lesson a couple times a day and if I did not feel really confident would listen to it again the next day.
It is a great product, but I was expecting a little more. I feel it could teach a lot more vocabulary and grammar for the first phase and the price. However, there are not many options for learning Twi, so it is better than nothing and probably gives you a good start. Another disappointing thing is that Phase 1 is the only phase. There are no others that come after this. I did not realize that when I bought the product, so there is really no way to advance with this product itself - you will have to buy something else afterwards or go to Ghana if you want to continue learning.
Service and delivery comments:
I would improve this product by adding more lessons, which would mean more vocabulary and more grammar. I would also improve it by adding more phases!
I feel that it would have been nice if the alphabet and sentence structure were explained better in writing to be used as a reference.
I wish that I had known that there were no written exercises, no other phases, and how extensive the vocabulary and grammar was.
