English is Ghana’s official language, however, each ethnic group has a native tongue, the most significant of which include Akan (44% of all people), Dagomba (16%), Ewe (13%), and Ga-Adangme (8%). Akan has several dialects. Its Twi dialect is most commonly used in the southern two-thirds of Ghana for communication between ethnic groups. It is spoken by over 15 million people in Ghana and by several million more on the Ivory Coast. The Pimsleur course features native speakers from Accra.
