Comments about Turkish Phase 1, Unit 16-20:

10 years ago I worked for a Turkish company and visited Turkey a couple of times. I had Turkish lessons - one hour a week. I had a lot on my plate and didn't do any homework - it was a waste of time. I've now been through Phase I twice and am on my third time through - prior to a two week bus tour of Turkey. I think I am making good progress - I rarely make mistakes now. I will say that the time given for responses in the later lessons is pretty short - for longer responses I find I have to stop the lesson and sort out the response and then start again. I am looking forward to trying my Turkish out on a native speaker.

Comments about Turkish Phase 1, Unit 16-20:

Product definitely exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend this program and this method has been my belief of how a language should be taught. Toddlers learn language skills from those around them without the use of a pen and paper. I know I feel like a reference book would have helped. But sometimes when I have a book, I find myself stumbling to speak, trying to figure out the right format, words, and order…etc. Using the Pimsleur method helps you build on conversational skills which you can later substitute words for and build other similar conversations. The grammar can be picked up eventually when you know how to speak. The duration of the class is perfect (30 minutes). I usually listen to a lesson a day while driving to work in the morning. Sometimes I do repeat the same lesson a couple of times before I move on. If there is a phrase or word that you simply cannot get from the lesson, it is OK to move on before it frustrates you. It will be repeated in other lessons and you would have been better by then to master it.
I would like to continue beyond the basic 30 lessons in Turkish. I hope Pimsleur puts this on their agenda. I am also considering purchasing the Spanish and French group of lessons to brush up my conversational skills in Spanish and French.

Comments about Turkish Phase 1, Unit 16-20:

these audio lessons are very good, BUT, I would recommend highly that they be accompanied by a written text book in which the words are spelled out. I think that using just the audio is sometmes counterproductive. Maybe also find a friend who is fluent and can get you started. (I lived in Turkey for a couple of years, so that helped me with the general tone, pacing, syntax, and "ear" for the language.) And even I need a written text in front of me for each lesson. Finally, because Turkish is not as popular as other languages, there are only 30 total 30-minute lessons. They will get you only to a point of communicating basic getting-yourself-around things like, hotels, common courtesies, restaurants, tourist shopping, etc.

Comments about Turkish Phase 1, Unit 16-20:

Turkish is so very different a language from anything in Europe that it requires time -- to tune out of everything you know and learn from scratch. This 30-lesson course is outstanding because it recognizes the cognitive challenge of the language, reminds you of what you should have but perhaps didn't absorb, and moves you forward each day. I only regret there isn't a part II. And I do wish there were an accompanying text that would aid in the rapid learning of vocabulary.
