This is the best introductory course for Turkish. It is so easy, having no written materials and all. It focuses on the speaking of the language and that is what matters. It has become my starting point for learning Turkish. My only complaint is that there are only 30 lessons while other languages have 90 or more.

This course really got very good speakers. In particular, I liked the fact that in later lessons, you got instructions directly in Turkish (discernible by the older dude with his hoarse, smoky voice).
However, as a young man traveling to the country, I would seriously wonder if I'd ever ask someone for his/her number of children; nor would I care about a fiancé(e) when I'm traveling all on my own. So this course is ideal for businessmen eating in not-too-cheap restaurants who spend a weekend or more in Turkey, but may need some improvement to suit a young man or woman in casual conversation, which is near-zero in this course. There's the formal 'you' everywhere, which is hardly ever used amongst people in their twenties or thirties.

Comments about Turkish Phase 1, Units 1-30:

This is my first experience with the Pimsleur technique. I LOVE it. Using the app on my iphone couldn't be easier. Breaking down the sounds into small chunks, repeating them and interspersing them throughout the episodes/lessons, is a great idea. The voices of the speakers are soothing and friendly. Everything is explained clearly and the pace is perfect--you're never bored. Half hour lessons are great as well. A lot is packed into each one and then followed up in the succeeding lessons. Beautifully planned. I am a foreign language teacher who studies a new language every year. Rarely have I used an online system. This one is truly wonderful. I have already recommended this system to others--I'm so impressed with it. I have a Turkish student in my class now, and thanks to Pimsleur, I chat with him and his mother from time to time in Turkish (and I've only recently begun the course.) I will use this system again, for other languages, I have no doubt. Thanks for a fantastic experience!

Comments about Turkish Phase 1, Units 1-30:

Out of all of the books, CD's, online sources and materials, this method was the one that truly built my foundation in Turkish. I have many of the same comments already listed so I will not be redundant. However, one thing that I would like to emphasize is that there are MORE PHASES NEEDED! Pimsleur, thank you very much and please listen to the other reviewers and me!!! :)

I would recommend this to anyone trying to learn Turkish. Stop the search for a more affordable resource because you will have a huge pile of books before you know it. You will look at your books and say, "I barely know any Turkish, but I have a huge pile of books." Save your coffee money for a month and purchase this when you have the cash. It's well worth it!

Comments about Turkish Phase 1, Units 1-30:

        How I use it:
Currently in Turkey for 10 weeks and wanted to learn some language. I like this program because it is very flexible, organized and not dependent on anything or anyone. It is also relatively inexpensive. It says once you learn 80% you can progress to the next lesson. I allow 3 times per lesson before I progress to the next one. I'm older so maybe if you're younger, you can progress through it quicker. I would suggest doing the language in the morning when you are most alert. It is really hard to focus when you are tired. Better to do it daily, but I typically do it 5 times a week. It would have been better to do this prior to the trip.

        What is great
        - The natural progression of the lessons
        - The way the words are pronounced from back to front. So for the word "Mer-Ha-Ba" - they would say "ba", then "ha-ba" and finally "mer-ha-ba" so that you can really get the enunciation.
        - I do it on my laptop but would like to get it added to my I-pod touch so it is more portable.
        - Flexibility

I have not reviewed the reading lessons yet. However, I think it would be great to have more Turkish added (i.e. Phase 2, 3, ...).

        Service and delivery comments:

        Would like more Turkish offerings.

I like the ease of use, the 10 sec rewind, and that the lessons just flow along. On a scale of 1 - 10 (high) I rate this an 8.
