Description

Includes 30 lessons and reading instruction (16 hours) as MP3 download, plus PDF user's guide and reading booklet

Spanish is the official language of Spain and 21 Latin American countries, and is an official language of the U.N. Pimsleur's Spanish teaches an educated Latin American Spanish, with speakers from Colombia and Argentina in levels I-III, and from Mexico in level IV.

Can learning another language be as easy as speaking your own? Yes with Pimsleur it’s that easy. Learn on your own time, at your own pace, and wherever you choose. Spanish Phase 2 includes 15 hours of spoken language practice and one additional hour of reading instruction, and is designed to be used after completing Phase 1.

  • In the first 10 lessons of Phase 2, you begin to use the past tense. Structures become more complex and informal speech is introduced. Conversations become fuller, and learners are able to discuss business and social activities, manage shopping situations, and express their interests. As you progress, vocabulary is expanded and fluency increases.
  • The next 10 lessons of Phase 2 allow you to further combine and build upon known elements, and produce longer and more complex sentences. You learn to bargain with shopkeepers, deal with business situations, get and give medical information, and discuss the weather.
  • In the final 10 lessons of Phase 2, you’ve doubled your vocabulary and have several hundred structures to draw upon. You’ll gain experience asking for assistance, finding a location that is some distance away, and using relative structures – faster, slower, etc. Sports and leisure activities are explored, as well as shopping, changing money, and future travel plans. By the end of Phase 2, you’re speaking at a midintermediate level with nearnative pronunciation, and you are comfortable meeting most social demands and limited job requirements.

Reading Lessons are included at the end of Unit 30. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to give you practice reading Spanish, and to provide you with some insight into Spanish culture with proverbs, common expressions, and a broad look at things you’ll see when visiting a Spanishspeaking country. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

Comments about Spanish Phase 2, Units 1-30:

Excellent pacing. The time allowed to repeat the teacher is perfect. Excellent way to learn and practice pronounciation. The vocab just comes with repetition. The only program I've found that allows me toe arm during my daily commute

Comments about Spanish Phase 2, Units 1-30:

I have been a user of Pimsleur for some time now, Learning Languages from Hungarian, Mandarin Chinese and now Spanish. I also have my girlfriend learning French.

I love their lessons and the way I learn with their process.

Usually takes me 2 times or days in a row for each lesson with the occasional 3 or 4 times.

I am not fluent by any means but can certainly get by with directions and asking most common questions. Also important is that I can count when required most for purchases and setting times etc.

Comments about Spanish Phase 2, Units 1-30:

Pimsleur helped me get started right away speaking in Spanish. The repetitiveness helps with memory. You learn a few words and then they have you use them in different ways, which has helped me think in the language and helps it come more easily to me. I wish they didn't do so much in "formal" Spanish and I wish I even knew I was learning that, because it sounds funny when talking to normal people. But I have learned a lot and I'm glad I'm doing the program. The Reading Units I find somewhat pointless but the Speaking Units have really helped.

Comments about Spanish Phase 2, Units 1-30:

I use this while commuting to work. The 30 minute lessons are the perfect length to achieve completion each day. The amount of new content mixed with previous content helps with retaining learned information. I had Spanish in high school and one semester in college 15 years ago but forgot a lot from not using it. This program is helping me use Spanish in conversation with people I encounter at my workplace. Learning through audio has been more helpful than reading a text book but there are reading lessons in this program; sometimes it's good to see the written word for clarification of spelling. Speaking out loud has also helped with my accent and I receive compliments from people I speak with.

Pimsleur and I drive together at least 5 days a week. We get along very well and I enjoy the learning experience. It's fantastic as there is no pressure and I can go over a lesson again and again. I do not have to get it right the first time or even the fourth.
