    • Accommodations: reserving a room, requesting Internet connection, getting help with luggage, asking about breakfast and dinner hours.

    • Vacationing: going to the beach and swimming pool, sunbathing, choosing inside or outside seating at a restaurant, taking a walk, talking about sports.
    • Family and friends: conversing informally with and about friends and extended family, talking informally about everyday situations.

I've used 3 other well known methods and a private tutor from Latin America on Skype. Pimsleur has been the most effective by far. The way that different conjugations are introduced a little at a time and then used in many different sentences enables you to remember them. Not like how I learned (or didn't learn) Spanish in high school - learn a verb, then try to memorize how conjugate it 12 ways. I listen to the lessons when I'm walking or exercising, traveling - even commuting, even though I might look a little funny as I move my lips to repeat the phrases. My only complaint - I'm on Course IV and want Pimsleur to continue with a course V so I can progress even further. Their product and method are so far superior to software programs or podcasts - I highly recommend them to my friends. Other companies have better marketing, but Pimsleur has a better product.

I go to Mexico twice a year for my job and have found that my pidgin Spanish only gets me so far, so I have worked hard to get through all four Pimsleur levels in advance of my next trip. I just finished Level IV. I'm sure I will be able to do better, as I am better at my listening skills now and I am able to address a broader scope of things (including past and future tense) but I am disappointed that Level IV does not include more broadly useful vocabulary. I would rather learn how to discuss cooking and grocery lists than book fairs and soccer. More camping and hiking and less sunbathing on the beach. What is the word for "pets?" How about horseback riding? Furniture? Rugs, curtains, towels, toothpaste, spoon, fork, soap?

Comments about Spanish Phase 4, Units 1-30:

I am now through Spanish IV and have really enjoyed the program. I have mostly listened while driving. The program has been successful for me. I did have a working knowledge of Spanish, and that has helped. I recommend the series as a great starter for getting a grasp on the language. I now feel like I have a lot more to learn, but have a solid foundation.

Comments about Spanish Phase 4, Units 1-30:

The Pimsleur method has enabled me to speak and understand spoken Spanish very well. After achieving a minor in Spanish at a good university and spending three months in Spain on Study Abroad, I picked up Pimsleur's intermediate-advanced level hoping to maintain my language skills and improve. I played the CDs in the car and followed the recommendation of one new lesson per day. Now I am completing the highest level of Pimsleur's Spanish and can attest to the excellent results. This method is better than anything else I've tried in my desire to be more fluent and understand native speakers more readily. It has my highest recommendation.

Comments about Spanish Phase 4, Units 1-30:

The program works great. At the current progression rate, I think that I would be nearly fluent if the levels went to 12 or so.

The levels are only 15 hours. How hard is it to put another one together. Level 4 is enough for basic slow conversations but it is not enough to throw me out to the wolves (fluent speakers).

Come on Pimsleur, I recommend you to everyone. Add enough levels to get all the way through intermediate. Nobody else does it. Everyone focuses on beginners.
