Description

Includes 30 lessons and reading instruction on 16 CDs, plus a reading booklet

Spanish is the official language of Spain and 21 Latin American countries, and is an official language of the U.N. Pimsleur's Spanish teaches an educated Latin American Spanish, with speakers from Colombia and Argentina in levels I-III, and from Mexico in level IV.

The Pimsleur® Method is scientifically proven to be your fastest route to nearnative fluency. Spanish III, Comprehensive includes another 15 hours of spoken language practice and one additional hour of reading instruction, and is designed to be used after completion of Levels I & II.

  • The beginning 10 lessons offer you the chance to expand your vocabulary and increase your fluency to an even higher level. You’ll gain experience participating in many informal and some formal discussions on practical, social, and semiprofessional topics. You’ll skillfully form longer, more complex sentences, and most importantly, you’ll find yourself being understood, even by native speakers unused to dealing with foreigners. You’ll be able to join in conversations effortlessly, confident of being understood.
  • In the next 10 lessons your skills will show everincreasing mastery of the language. Speaking with grace and complete naturalness, you’ll enjoy fluid conversations on many new subjects. Delving deeper into cultural norms and situations, you’ll find yourself responding effortlessly, and able to choose from a wide accumulation of vocabulary and structures.
  • In the final 10 lessons, you’re nearing fluency with agile responses, and a naturalsounding, nearnative accent. You’re able to utilize the language in subtle ways, and speak using past, present, and future tenses. Selfconfidence soars as you experience the language and culture; no longer as a foreigner, but with a deepening insight into an expanding new world.

Reading Lessons are included at the end of Unit 30. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to give you practice reading Spanish and to provide vocabulary. Before you know it, you’ll be reading Spanish with the ease and flexibility of a native speaker. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

Comments about Spanish Phase 3, Units 1-30:

My family and I went to Spain for about 10 days. I was really able to communicate in Spanish. I'm not fluent by any stretch, but I could understand most of what was said, and I could get my point across. One time, we had to tell the property manager that our hot water wasn't working. Another time I had to take a fishing rod back to the shop where I bought it because it had broken. I exchanged it for another. All of this in Spanish. Really cool, and it boosted my confidence. Of course we ordered food and drinks in Spanish. Very happy with the Pomsleur course.

Comments about Spanish Phase 3, Units 1-30:

I really enjoy listening to and responding to the lessons. Sometimes I do a lesson twice consecutively before I go on to the next lesson. I seem to learn so much better with Pimsleur than with college courses. I am learning to listen and to speak. Then I can use the reading lessons to confirm spelling. I progress to reading little children's books and signs and menus and tourist info. I am looking forward to continuing with Phase 4 after I finish Phase 3.

Comments about Spanish Phase 3, Units 1-30:

I use this lessons on my car to/from work 5 days a week. I have found them to be effective. I like the way they introduce new words and expressions. This product needs a printed text to go along with the downloads. How much more could it cost to add a printed text? I find myself going on google translate to find how certain words are spelled.

I really do love this product. I started about 9 months ago and am well into Spanish 3. I plan to complete the 4 levels. Then, maybe German! The program is very easy to use and maximizes the learning process. Customer service is great!

Comments about Spanish Phase 3, Units 1-30:

I was introduced to Spanish in kindergarten and had a year of study in 7th grade. After two years of high school Latin and a year of college Italian, I find myself with professional contacts in Latin America and occasional work trips to Mexico and South America. My Spanish has been 'barely get by and thank goodness the University folks speak English' so when on research visits I had to buy groceries, ask for directions and so forth, it was challenging. The day I was seeking some matches in a store and had to resort to Spanish saying "the little things in a box that make fire" while miming the striking of a match, I decided I could do better. I borrowed my boyfriend's introductory Pimsleur level One (about 1/3 of the actual Level One), was bored out of my skull so decided to just buy Level II. Perfect choice. I have worked through that and then bought Level III, which I am currently on Lesson 20. I love the way the lessons are organized, and the graduated interval recall is working well for me. I also am beginning to understand how to use some of the previously more puzzling things, such as the conditional forms (pueda in lieu of puedo, tenga in lieu of tengo). Listening to the conversations helps my ear, although if I listen more than once it's not really a preparation for what I will encounter my next trip (June) since I already know what they're going to say. But it helps. I do think that any "learn on your own" method suffers from the lack of "think on your feet in a real environment where you are on your own and can't try again" but the proof of the pudding how much I'm learning will come in a couple of months. I think true fluency will require being immersed for more than a week at a time, without the option of resorting to English, and my colleagues at the university are a little too polite to just let me struggle. But I'm enjoying the Pimsleur experience, I know I'm improving my Spanish significantly. I recommend it to anyone who wants to develop some facility with a language.
