Description

Includes 30 lessons and reading instruction on 16 CDs, plus a reading booklet

Spanish is the official language of Spain and 21 Latin American countries, and is an official language of the U.N. Pimsleur's Spanish teaches an educated Latin American Spanish, with speakers from Colombia and Argentina in levels I-III, and from Mexico in level IV.

The Pimsleur® Method is scientifically proven to be your fastest route to nearnative fluency. Spanish III, Comprehensive includes another 15 hours of spoken language practice and one additional hour of reading instruction, and is designed to be used after completion of Levels I & II.

  • The beginning 10 lessons offer you the chance to expand your vocabulary and increase your fluency to an even higher level. You’ll gain experience participating in many informal and some formal discussions on practical, social, and semiprofessional topics. You’ll skillfully form longer, more complex sentences, and most importantly, you’ll find yourself being understood, even by native speakers unused to dealing with foreigners. You’ll be able to join in conversations effortlessly, confident of being understood.
  • In the next 10 lessons your skills will show everincreasing mastery of the language. Speaking with grace and complete naturalness, you’ll enjoy fluid conversations on many new subjects. Delving deeper into cultural norms and situations, you’ll find yourself responding effortlessly, and able to choose from a wide accumulation of vocabulary and structures.
  • In the final 10 lessons, you’re nearing fluency with agile responses, and a naturalsounding, nearnative accent. You’re able to utilize the language in subtle ways, and speak using past, present, and future tenses. Selfconfidence soars as you experience the language and culture; no longer as a foreigner, but with a deepening insight into an expanding new world.

Reading Lessons are included at the end of Unit 30. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to give you practice reading Spanish and to provide vocabulary. Before you know it, you’ll be reading Spanish with the ease and flexibility of a native speaker. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

Comments about Spanish Phase 3, Units 1-30:

I was introduced to Spanish in kindergarten and had a year of study in 7th grade. After two years of high school Latin and a year of college Italian, I find myself with professional contacts in Latin America and occasional work trips to Mexico and South America. My Spanish has been 'barely get by and thank goodness the University folks speak English' so when on research visits I had to buy groceries, ask for directions and so forth, it was challenging. The day I was seeking some matches in a store and had to resort to Spanish saying "the little things in a box that make fire" while miming the striking of a match, I decided I could do better. I borrowed my boyfriend's introductory Pimsleur level One (about 1/3 of the actual Level One), was bored out of my skull so decided to just buy Level II. Perfect choice. I have worked through that and then bought Level III, which I am currently on Lesson 20. I love the way the lessons are organized, and the graduated interval recall is working well for me. I also am beginning to understand how to use some of the previously more puzzling things, such as the conditional forms (pueda in lieu of puedo, tenga in lieu of tengo). Listening to the conversations helps my ear, although if I listen more than once it's not really a preparation for what I will encounter my next trip (June) since I already know what they're going to say. But it helps. I do think that any "learn on your own" method suffers from the lack of "think on your feet in a real environment where you are on your own and can't try again" but the proof of the pudding how much I'm learning will come in a couple of months. I think true fluency will require being immersed for more than a week at a time, without the option of resorting to English, and my colleagues at the university are a little too polite to just let me struggle. But I'm enjoying the Pimsleur experience, I know I'm improving my Spanish significantly. I recommend it to anyone who wants to develop some facility with a language.

Comments about Spanish Phase 3, Units 1-30:

My daughter speaks fluent Spanish and I'm determined to learn. I explored different learning programs and settled on Pimsleur as my main tool because I can listen, and listen again and again and not be stuck to the computer. It also forces me to really concentrate because it is hard for me to just listen and not SEE at the same time.

I probably listen to each lesson a minimum of five times before proceeding. I make sure I have really mastered the material before moving on.

I find the phrases useful and ordinary. In fact, I find myself thinking things in Spanish after I say them, just to see if I can and often times I can.

I'll be starting Level 4 soon and only wish there were more levels!

Comments about Spanish Phase 3, Units 1-30:

Use it while driving App is a problem It does not go to car audio easily and there is no way to pause it if I get a text or calendar note it stops and I can't figure out how to restart it preferred it on iTunes, it worked in the car much better, went direct to car audio and was able to pause. I used to do 15 lessons per month and now I have only done 6 in 1 1/2 months because it is so difficult to use in car.

Need more words for travel and less for business If you can't speak what you need to travel you will never probably make it to use for business I know the word for engineering, but can only order coffee, tea, wine and beer

        not enough listening practice

        pause too short

Comments about Spanish Phase 3, Units 1-30:

I listen to my CDs at least every morning on the way to work and on my way home from work. It is the only program that I have stuck with because it is effective and interesting. I would highly recommend this program to anyone who wants to learn another language and spends any amount of time in the car.
