Russian is the official language in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Krygystan. Pimsleur's Russian uses speakers from Moscow and St. Petersburg, which accounts for slight pronunciation differences between speakers, but accurately depicts contemporary spoken Russian.

Comments about Russian Phases 1-3:

It is probably too soon for me to write an accurate review, but after a few lessons in, it was money well spent. What I really enjoy is the portability. During the working day, I repeatedly play one lesson in the background, just to get acclimated with it. After work, when I am able to focus on the lesson, I feel more prepared.

I am unsure how I feel about there being no visuals with the audio files (the VP did say the developers are working on this) and limited exposure to the grammar/alphabet, but on the flip side, I think learning the grammar would take away from the best part of Pimsleur: being able to have effective face-to-face encounters with native speakers.

The Graduated Interval Recall, and Principle of Anticipation are not just marketing jargon, they truly challenge ones thought process and help one to memorize the new language.

The time allocated for the interactive response is too short for me, but I would much rather click pause when I need too rather than waiting an extended period of time to check if my response was accurate.

    Comments about Russian Phases 1-3:

I have been studying Russian for several years and purchased the whole series of Russian through Pimsleur. I was very pleased by how I could study the language by listening only, and grasp many words, phrases and meanings. I like this very much and Russian is especially hard.

This course is very helpful. I am really learning Russian from scratch and can carry on a simple conversation after the first 20 lessons.

    Comments about Russian Phases 1-3:

In my opinion Pimsleur is one of the most effective methods for learning a language there is, which is why it is such a shame that you guys just barely miss what I consider could be the PERFECT product.

I consider myself a visual learner, I don't listen to anything particularly well and remember it later. This is just the way I have been my entire life. So I tried softwares, I tried books, etc. and none of it really clicked. Then I tried Pimsleur Basic during my morning and afternoon commute and within a week I could actually remember useful words and phrases. I was perplexed, amazed, fascinated - you name it! Within that first week I purchased the entire program of this language.

I decided Pimsleur would be a better use of my drive time than audiobooks or music. Instead of just wasting the time, I actually get something out of the whole process of sitting in my car an hour every day.

But unfortunately, the product is incomplete. I can learn to speak it all day, but if I can't read it then I have only half the skill level. In addition, although the program itself has felt long, the amount of words I am actually learning is somewhat limited (I think it has been counted at about 500?). The last detractor is that there's virtually no explanation. While I'd like to believe I can learn as a child does, my brain is fundamentally different - I need some explanation and a supplementary book discussing each unit in detail would have been extraordinarily helpful.
