Russian is the official language in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Krygystan. Pimsleur's Russian uses speakers from Moscow and St. Petersburg, which accounts for slight pronunciation differences between speakers, but accurately depicts contemporary spoken Russian.

The Pimsleur® Method is scientifically proven to be your fastest route to nearnative fluency. Russian Phase 3 includes another 15 hours of spoken language practice and one additional hour of reading instruction, and is designed to be used after completion of Phases 1 and 2. T

  • he beginning lessons of Phase 3 offer you the chance to expand your vocabulary and increase your fluency to an even higher level. You’ll gain experience participating in many informal and some formal discussions on practical, social, and semiprofessional topics. You’ll skillfully form longer, more complex sentences, and most importantly, you’ll find yourself being understood, even by native speakers unused to dealing with foreigners. You’ll be able to join in conversations effortlessly, confident of being understood.
  • In the next 10 lessons of Phase 3 your skills will show everincreasing mastery of the language. Speaking with grace and complete naturalness, you’ll enjoy fluid conversations on many new subjects. Delving deeper into cultural norms and situations, you’ll find yourself responding effortlessly, and able to choose from a wide accumulation of vocabulary and structures.
  • In the final 10 lessons of Phase 3, you’re nearing fluency with agile responses, and a naturalsounding, nearnative accent. You’re able to utilize the language in subtle ways, and speak using past, present, and future tenses. Selfconfidence soars as you experience the language and culture; no longer as a foreigner, but with a deepening insight into an expanding new world.

Reading Lessons are included at the end of Unit 30. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to give you practice reading Russian and to provide vocabulary. Before you know it, you’ll be reading Russian with the ease and flexibility of a native speaker. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

      Comments about Russian III, Comprehensive:

I listen most mornings for half an hour. It is only 30 minutes, and very clearly presented. Although it is suggested that no writing be done, I wish they could have included a phonetic dictionary. Otherwise a great product.

Comments about Russian Phase 3, Units 1-30:

I have taken Pimsleur Russian 1, 2, and 3 and have reused the CDs many times. They were fabulous. I have used the language when I visited Ukraine. The Russian speakers commented that my pronunciation is quite good.

I only wish for a Pinsleur Russian 4 to build on what I already have learned.

          Comments about Russian III, Comprehensive:

I liked the Pimsleur very much. It was very fun going through the lessons daily, now for several months. I first bought lessons part 1 and two, and then part three. It was built upon the previous lessons and continues review of previous lessons as a reminder, along with introducing new words every lesson. It is practical information one would certainly use if they were traveling or working in Russia. It gives familiarization to times, places, people, verbs, nouns, adjectives, and of course the Russian grammar. It does not try to teach all grammar, but enough to allow conversations that are brief and necessary, or chat at a party or meeting. The first part of the lessons have a Russian conversation, then it does a review of previous lessons, then it breaks down the conversation and keeps quizzing you, so soon you remember all. From this point on, all my conversations will feel like a continuation of my Pimsleur lessons.

          Service and delivery comments:

I would like to see more grammar study, and perhaps written lessons for this. Another Russian 4 would be good and possibly something I would purchase.

Comments about Russian Phase 3, Units 1-30:

So I decided to learn Russian, and I don't hear a lot around me in south Texas.
I loved my language courses in school, so I picked up the case system and basic grammar out of books. When it was painful, I thought, "Well, going from Russian to English would be about ten times worse, and people do that all the time, so deal."
I tried Rosetta Stone for speaking skills. I liked it for vocabulary building, because I'm a visual learner, but its main strength was also the main problem: I learned everything visually. After a few months I could read any Russian newspaper I wanted as long as I could look up the words I didn't know. Still couldn't readily form my own sentences in conversation, though.
That's why I tried Pimsleur: it made sense that to learn to hear and speak a language you have to hear and speak it. That means no visual cues! My brain wanted to look at a transcript, but the whole point is there isn't one: there aren't transcripts in real life. You have to use the auditory part of your brain, or your conversation skills never develop. Yes, it hurts at first. So does doing pushups.
I wish there were a Russian 4 and 5, because this isn't teaching me any new words or grammar, but even so it's hands down the best course out there for getting used to the feedback loops of conversation. If you're living in a place where it's a just tad easier to get Spanish practice than Russian, this is as good as it gets without a private tutor.
I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because-- with all due respect to the solid neuroscientific foundation of this method-- the repetition got to the point where I sometimes thought I should shut up and let my cat answer. But I guess that means it's teaching me, so I probably shouldn't complain.
              A very, very good course.

Comments about Russian Phase 3, Units 1-30:

These programs are all excellent! I have every language learning tool available and I would trade them all for this program. It isn't perfect, the language used is a bit too formal, but these are excellent programs overall. The Russian language is very difficult to learn and speaking, even with a taped program is better than 100 writing exercises. These will also not make you anything close to fluent, but they will start you on the path towards fluency.

Bottom line, it is worth the price. It is more practical and easier to use than Rosetta Stone, it is mobile, it really does work. You will learn the program.
