Description
Includes 30 lessons and reading instruction (16 hours) as MP3 download, plus PDF user's guide and reading booklet
Russian is the official language in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Krygystan. Pimsleur's Russian uses speakers from Moscow and St. Petersburg, which accounts for slight pronunciation differences between speakers, but accurately depicts contemporary spoken Russian.
Can learning another language be as easy as speaking your own? Yes with Pimsleur it’s that easy. Learn on your own time, at your own pace, and wherever you choose. Russian Phase 2 includes 15 hours of spoken language practice and one additional hour of reading instruction, and is designed to be used after completing Phase 1.
- In the first 10 lessons of Phase 2, you begin to use the past tense. Structures become more complex and informal speech is introduced. Conversations become fuller, and learners are able to discuss business and social activities, manage shopping situations, and express their interests. As you progress, vocabulary is expanded and fluency increases.
- The next 10 lessons of Phase 2 allow you to further combine and build upon known elements, and produce longer and more complex sentences. You learn to bargain with shopkeepers, deal with business situation, get and give medical information, and discuss the weather.
- In the final 10 lessons of Phase 2, you’ve doubled your vocabulary and have several hundred structures to draw upon. You’ll gain experience asking for assistance, finding a location that is some distance away, and using relative structures – faster, slower, etc. Sports and leisure activities are explored, as well as shopping, changing money, and future travel plans. By the end of Phase 2, you’re speaking at a midintermediate level with nearnative pronunciation, and you are comfortable meeting most social demands and limited job requirements.
Reading Lessons are included at the end of this unit. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to give you practice reading Russian, and to provide you with some insight into Russian culture with proverbs, common expressions, and a broad look at some of the things you’ll see when visiting Russia. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

Comments about Russian Phase 2, Units 1-30:
I am very satisfied with the Pimsleur learning system. I have noticed an increase in the speed of the conversations in phase 2. It also pushes me everyday to do a new lesson even though sometimes the one I did was not very good. It seems like the next lesson builds upon that. Am also thankful for it's ease of use. Thanks again!

Comments about Russian Phase 2, Units 1-30:
The best way to learn a language. I've tried the others (yes, including the one seen most on the TV). Pimsleur is by FAR the most effective way I have used. My girl friend, from Russia, is also more impressed with Pimsleur than any other method. It builds on itself step by step. I listen to it during my commute to and from work. Excellent way to use the time.

Comments about Russian Phase 2, Units 1-30:
Moving through Level II, I found myself becoming more familiar with formal versus informal conversation. It started introducing me to past and future tenses. My vocabulary has greatly expanded as well. I found myself hitting a breakthrough in terms of speaking and understanding the language after a certain point in the program.
This level gets a little more challenging, and sometimes the first exposure to a new lesson has frustrated me plenty of times throughout the whole program. There have been times I wanted to quit. But I realized that if I don't challenge myself, I won't ever grow or get better. The key is to keep doing your 30 minutes a day. It is continual exposure that makes you successful. It is not the fact that the language itself is hard, or it's too complex. The reason it feels challenging is because it is yet unfamiliar to you. Keep persisting and it will make sense and become second nature over time.
I find myself able to read and understand a lot more in Russian now. I have read signs and texts on things in Russian, and I excitedly tell my friend, wow I actually understand what this means. I work in a hospital and I can give Russian speaking people directions and help them find places or answer some questions that they have. This suprises people and there is a certain respect that is given to you. It is incredibly rewarding to have accomplished this. I'm looking forward to start tackling Level III.
Of course, the program only works as well as the user does. It will not make you fluent, but it provides the essential foundation and stepping stones for someone who wishes to walk that path. If you commit and do the work, you will find that there is a lot of value to be gained. When it's all said and done, you will be glad you did.

Comments about Russian Phase 2, Units 1-30:
I found the Pimsleur programme perfectly suited to my way of learning orally.
The repeatition of word and the frequency is great you learn almost painlessly
Truth being that you likely ave to repeat the lesson twice so to settle things in.
One of my worries is how to get further after the 3 rd level
Experience. Would be enhanced with a flashcard program sk to visualize tje word as well and refresh your memory. Basic grammar explanation could be handy specially when you are learning a language that is based on cases.
