I purchased this product to improve my pronunciation, and I have to say that is an extremely effective tool to add to reading and writing. This is NOT a complete package for learning Russian though. The language is very complex when compared to English, so you will need to mix live conversation, reading, and writing with this program to become comfortable.

I wanted to continue studying Russian while I go to law school. Pimsleur came recommended from my Russian teacher and I enjoy it so far. I basically just do a lesson a day on my commute from work. I can already read past the Phase 1 level so I haven't used the reading yet but is definitely a plus for a language like Russian. However, I have to admit that I will probably shop around after finishing Phase 1 because I want to go beyond just Phase 3 but Pimsleur doesn't offer anything besides that for Russian. I want to stick with one program once it gets more difficult for me.

Comments about Russian Phase 1, Unit 01-05:

pimsleur is definitely the best method for learning a new language. I've endlessly tried other programs but pimsleur is the one that forces you to remember everything. Rosetta Stone is the absolute worse...

Comments about Russian Phase 1, Unit 01-05:

We are retired and have been traveling for eleven years. For short visits to new countries, we like to download the first free Pimsleur lesson to get a feel for the language. For longer stays we buy the first five or ten lessons. We find Pimsleur more effective than schools, and the retention rate is far better, especially as we can easily go back and review lessons learned in the past. Plus it's less expensive than language schools, and our use of time is more efficient.

Currently we are trying something different. We are living in St. Petersburg, and are up to lesson 13 in Russian. We hope to go past 30. Then we will see if Pimsleur really works!

Comments about Russian Phase 1, Unit 01-05:

I have used Pimsleur for decades. Spanish refresher, Japanese language, and now Russian.

It is the best program I have found for my learning. BUT, it SHOULD be better.

It is tedious to go back and review lessons to get true proficiency. But, it is the best I have found.
