Description
Includes 30 lessons and reading instruction on 16 CDs, plus a reading booklet
Russian is the official language in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Krygystan. Pimsleur's Russian uses speakers from Moscow and St. Petersburg, which accounts for slight pronunciation differences between speakers, but accurately depicts contemporary spoken Russian.
Comprehensive Russian III includes 30 additional lessons (16 hrs.), plus Readings, which build upon the language skills acquired in Levels I and II. Increased spoken and reading language ability. Level III will increase your vocabulary and grammatical structures and triple your spoken proficiency. Upon completion of a level III, you will be able to:
- participate in most informal and some formal discussions on practical, social, and some semi-professional topics,
- form longer sentences while maintaining the target language syntax,
- be understood even by native speakers unused to dealing with foreigners,
- handle increasingly difficult grammatical structures,
- enjoy fluent conversations with a variety of strangers,
- have a near-native accent, and the subtleties of the language will be apparent in your speech,
- read at the same level at which you speak.
Note: In order for the Pimsleur Method to work correctly, you must first complete the Level I + II language programs before proceeding to the Level III language program.

Comments about Russian III, Comprehensive:
I liked the Pimsleur very much. It was very fun going through the lessons daily, now for several months. I first bought lessons part 1 and two, and then part three. It was built upon the previous lessons and continues review of previous lessons as a reminder, along with introducing new words every lesson. It is practical information one would certainly use if they were traveling or working in Russia. It gives familiarization to times, places, people, verbs, nouns, adjectives, and of course the Russian grammar. It does not try to teach all grammar, but enough to allow conversations that are brief and necessary, or chat at a party or meeting. The first part of the lessons have a Russian conversation, then it does a review of previous lessons, then it breaks down the conversation and keeps quizzing you, so soon you remember all. From this point on, all my conversations will feel like a continuation of my Pimsleur lessons.
Service and delivery comments:
I would like to see more grammar study, and perhaps written lessons for this. Another Russian 4 would be good and possibly something I would purchase.

Comments about Russian Phase 3, Units 1-30:
These programs are all excellent! I have every language learning tool available and I would trade them all for this program. It isn't perfect, the language used is a bit too formal, but these are excellent programs overall. The Russian language is very difficult to learn and speaking, even with a taped program is better than 100 writing exercises. These will also not make you anything close to fluent, but they will start you on the path towards fluency.
Bottom line, it is worth the price. It is more practical and easier to use than Rosetta Stone, it is mobile, it really does work. You will learn the program.

Comments about Russian Phase 3, Units 1-30:
I have already made comments to the Pimsleur Russian I & II, since I have completed those programs, but I would recommend Russian III to anyone that is interested in getting that first true and big step into the language! The reason why Russian is seen as a challenge to the average language learner is because the specifics of the grammar and the language's construction are just not intuitive for those that know English...these Pimsleur courses (and III especially, I am working through it now), truly drive home the point that the key to language comprehension is through an seemingless subconscious absorption of the language! These programs have given me such a competitive edge going through my Russian University course sequence!!! My only issue is that after Russian III of Pimsleur, it is done! I would absolutely love to see a Russian IV and/or vocabulary booster program to those already offered by Pimsleur!!!
For those of you looking to take that first step to thinking in a language and in preparation for a more buckled-down course, this is the best start!
