Description
Includes 30 lessons and reading instruction on 16 CDs, plus a reading booklet
Russian is the official language in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Krygystan. Pimsleur's Russian uses speakers from Moscow and St. Petersburg, which accounts for slight pronunciation differences between speakers, but accurately depicts contemporary spoken Russian.
Comprehensive Russian II includes 30 additional lessons (16 hrs.), plus Readings, which build upon the language skills acquired in Level I. Increased spoken and reading language ability. Level II will double your vocabulary and grammatical structures while increasing your spoken proficiency exponentially. Upon completion of a Level II, you will be able to:
- engage in fuller conversations involving yourself, your family, daily activities, interests and personal preferences,
- combine known elements into increasingly longer sentences and strings of sentences,
- create with language and function in informal situations,
- deal with concrete topics in the past, present, and future,
- meet social demands and limited job requirements,
- begin reading for meaning.
Note: In order for the Pimsleur Method to work correctly, you must first complete the Level I language program before proceeding to the Level II language program.

Comments about Russian Phase 2, Units 1-30:
Moving through Level II, I found myself becoming more familiar with formal versus informal conversation. It started introducing me to past and future tenses. My vocabulary has greatly expanded as well. I found myself hitting a breakthrough in terms of speaking and understanding the language after a certain point in the program.
This level gets a little more challenging, and sometimes the first exposure to a new lesson has frustrated me plenty of times throughout the whole program. There have been times I wanted to quit. But I realized that if I don't challenge myself, I won't ever grow or get better. The key is to keep doing your 30 minutes a day. It is continual exposure that makes you successful. It is not the fact that the language itself is hard, or it's too complex. The reason it feels challenging is because it is yet unfamiliar to you. Keep persisting and it will make sense and become second nature over time.
I find myself able to read and understand a lot more in Russian now. I have read signs and texts on things in Russian, and I excitedly tell my friend, wow I actually understand what this means. I work in a hospital and I can give Russian speaking people directions and help them find places or answer some questions that they have. This suprises people and there is a certain respect that is given to you. It is incredibly rewarding to have accomplished this. I'm looking forward to start tackling Level III.
Of course, the program only works as well as the user does. It will not make you fluent, but it provides the essential foundation and stepping stones for someone who wishes to walk that path. If you commit and do the work, you will find that there is a lot of value to be gained. When it's all said and done, you will be glad you did.

Comments about Russian Phase 2, Units 1-30:
I found the Pimsleur programme perfectly suited to my way of learning orally.
The repeatition of word and the frequency is great you learn almost painlessly
Truth being that you likely ave to repeat the lesson twice so to settle things in.
One of my worries is how to get further after the 3 rd level
Experience. Would be enhanced with a flashcard program sk to visualize tje word as well and refresh your memory. Basic grammar explanation could be handy specially when you are learning a language that is based on cases.

Comments about Russian Phase 2, Units 1-30:
This was an absolutely wonderful program!!! I am studying Russian at the University Level, and I had already completed my first year of Russian, and although my Reading and Writing were well on their way, my listening and speaking comprehension were lingering and below my standards. I was nervous going into Russian second year, then I heard of this program...I was initially skeptical about "how much more could I truly get out of this?"...but, I can tell you this, the Pimsleur method has built into me, a natural and almost subconscious method of absorbing the language! And the honest truth is, I was the top student of my class for Second year University Russian because I was able to think in the fluidity of the language! All that grammar I had gained from my course, all of a sudden made sense! I also began to dream in Russian! I did both the Pimsleur Russian Comprehensive I & II, I am currently working through III! I hope Pimsleur makes a IV and/or a vocabulary booster course, as with Spanish!!!
I would recommend this program to anyone!!!
