Languages are a hobby of mine and after trying pretty much everything from textbooks to YouTube videos, I've settled on Pimsleur as my starting point for any new language. For meticulous training in pronunciation there is simply nothing that compares. My friends who are native Russian speakers are amazed at the results I've gotten. My friends who are native speakers of other slavic languages, such as Croatian, actually asked me if I was born in Russia! I've just finished Russian 3 and I miss it already, although it has gotten me to the point that I can now listen to podcasts of BBC Russian, such as "Vam Slovo", and get a lot out of it. Pimsleur takes time, but it's all time that I wasn't really using - especially commuting time in the car -- so the time is essentially free to me. It's a perfect fit! I will wait anxiously for news of the release of Russian 4!

I have been struggling to learn Russian bit by bit over three years. I finally tried Pimsleur and for the first time I feel like I am making meaningful progress. I am now confident I will learn the language and be able to speak it well enough to travel there. It really works. I do have to sometimes look up words to understand pronunciation and context. Being able to read the cyryllic alphabet prior to starting the course has been very important.

I have studied 6 languages since a boy. I have the peculiar disability of being an American, notorious for its monolinguistic outlook and an educational system that is a nightmare especially when it comes to language study. After 12 years of studying Russian I was still a beginner. While in Russia a couple months ago I realized how to learn the language. I came home and discovered Pimsleur had the EXACT same idea. So I tried one. It was unbelievable. And kept going. They explain very simply and quickly the most complicated nuances that had escaped me for years. Pimsleur nailed it. Right on the head. I am dreading that there is an end to this training, but I can see that I am getting a very, very stable and broad base from which becoming fluent will be not only possible but easy. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You learn it as a first language.

I listen to this everyday to keep up on my Russian. It is very effective and I really enjoy using it. The lessons are not to fast but just right to absorb the material. I have advanced from a stone cold beginer to an Intermediate speaker in no time. My proof is having conversations with other native speakers and I don't make the mistakes I used to.
