About the Russian Language
Russian is the official language in Russia, Belarus, Kazakstan, and Krygystan. It remains a principal language of administration in many of the former Soviet Union territories. There are over 118 million people who speak Russian in Russian alone and it is the primary language of over 145 million people worldwide.
The Pimsleur courses use speakers from Moscow and St. Petersburg, which accounts for slight pronunciation differences between speakers, but accurately depicts contemporary spoken Russian.
The new editions reflect substantial changes in the language in the post-Soviet period as well as other changes, such as monetary, following the revaluation of the ruble.
Russian is written using the Cyrillic alphabet.
