Description

Includes 30 lessons and reading instruction on 16 CDs, plus a reading booklet

Romanian is spoken by about 22 million people in Romania, where it is the official language, by 3 million people in Moldova (where it's called Moldovan), and by around 1 million scattered in Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Montenegro, Hungary, and Serbia. Learn Romanian today with Pimsleur.

The Pimsleur® Method: the easiest, fastest way to learn a new language. Completely portable, easily downloadable, and lots of fun. You’ll be speaking and understanding in no time flat! Romanian, Comprehensive includes 15 hours of spoken language practice and one hour of reading instruction in thirty, 30-minute lessons.

  • In the first 10 lessons, you’ll cover the basics: saying hello, asking for or giving information, scheduling a meal or a meeting, asking for or giving basic directions, and much more. You’ll be able to handle minimum courtesy requirements, understand much of what you hear, and be understood at a beginning level, but with nearnative pronunciation skills.
  • In the next 10 lessons, you’ll build on what you’ve learned. Expand your menu, increase your scheduling abilities from general to specific, start to deal with currency and exchanging money, refine your conversations and add over a hundred new vocabulary items. You’ll understand more of what you hear, and be able to participate with speech that is smoother and more confident.
  • In the final 10 lessons, you’ll be speaking and understanding at an intermediate level. In this phase, more directions are given in the target language, which moves your learning to a whole new plane. Lessons include shopping, visiting friends, going to a restaurant, plans for the evening, car trips, and talking about family. You’ll be able to speak comfortably about things that happened in the past and make plans for the future.

Reading Lessons are included starting in Unit 11 to provide you with an introduction to reading Romanian. These lessons, which total about one hour, are designed to teach you to sound out words with Romanian pronunciation and accent. A Reading Booklet to be used with the audio lessons is also included in PDF format.

I completed level 1 Romanian. I seemed difficult at first but eventually it all started to make sense _ now I am ready to move up.

After completing Pimsleur Brazilian Portugese level 3 I was the only one that could speak the language for a group of 20 Americans in Brazil, Several of which were using Roseta Stone but, could not get beyond parroting a word or two. It only took me six months and now with the help of a basic grammar book I can also read Portugese.

I am two lessons from Pimsleur Hebrew level 2 _ now that is a real challange! Note: I am 59 and not a liquist. Warning! this can be addictive and make people jealuous.

I am up to Unit 12 out of the 30. So far so good but it has been mainly how to order drinks and have dinner. As I have said, I'm only on Unit 12 so I hope as I go I will get Into directions and such.
If you do it every day it does stick. A few lessons I had to do more than once, but that was me, not the lesson itself.
Sometimes it goes a bit fast, but that is what the pause button for I suppose :)
I'm not sure if I would recommend it YET because I have not finished but I am happy to say I sure know how to order beer or wine!
And with out a booklet I sometimes have to look up the word they are speaking but I don't find that difficult.

Comments about Romanian Phase 1, Units 1-30:

I transferred the lessons to an old I Pod, Now I can walk on the beach every morning, listening and repeating/

The benefit is the endless repetition and revision so that difficult sounds and phrases slowly become familiar.

My occasional partner from Romania says my accent is good - though as yet I can't say much

    Comments about Romanian, Comprehensive:

Hello, my name is Ivan, I been living in Stockholm Sweden for many years.
I wanted to try learning romanian. And I did succed a bit., but there's much more id like to learn, and if, going to learn.
Romanian is growing. It's economy grows bigger for each day.
So it's good as if I would say travel to Bucharest. I really have help with all these directions and phrases in romanian. What I don't like about it is that it doesn't offers more than only a single course! Which is bad. I believe that the more available a language is the more people read and learns it.

Comments about Romanian Phase 1, Units 1-30:

My fiance is Romanian and her family still lives there so I wanted to learn her language so I could speak to her family. The language program is very useful and something about the way it teaches you makes the sentences come off my tongue almost as naturally as my own language. I just wish there were more levels. It really works pretty darn well. My fiance says my pronunciation is perfect. She said I still have an accent but I'm extremely intelligible. I actually feel pretty confident. I do plan on continuing if they release more levels. I like that it focuses on speaking, which to me is the most important part, obviously. It teaches you to speak the language exceptionally well. For the price, I really feel like it was totally worth it, and I wasn't too sure how it would turn out. I just got the mp3 package and I like that i have an app on my phone so I can bring it with me when I go somewhere. Also, I have trouble focusing sometimes and thirty minutes is a good amount of time per lesson. It doesn't feel like too much.

Comments about Romanian Phase 1, Units 1-30:

Pimsleur's method of teaching is fantastic and really helps you retain what you learn. It mimics how we learn a language a a small child. I've already recommended it to several acquaintances, including vision impaired people who need an audio format. The only drawback, as some other users have mentioned, is that it is very formal. I would like to learn the familiar forms of the verbs sooner as well as the plural forms.
