Learn Norwegian with The Pimsleur Method

This course is remarkably good. I'm impressed that a language can be taught without a teacher, just by listening and repeating. In comparison, I took introductory Italian at a local community college, and I've learned much more from this Pimsleur course. My wife, a native Norwegian, thinks I'm doing really well!

I have the comprehensive Norwegian-16 CD's.
After completing it I went to Norway and took the
coastal cruise from Bergen to Nordkapp and Kirkenes. Visited many towns and found myself
speaking Norwegian to people everywhere. Almost all Norwegians speak English, but were very glad to see a foreigner learn their language. There are many dialects there but I was able to follow most of it.
This course really worked for me. The speakers were excellent. Pacing of the lessons seemed ideal
and made it fun to participate. I am reviewing the
entire set again for a return trip. Now if Pimsleur would only do an intermediate version.

I listen to a lesson every day on my long commute. Then I listen to the same lesson again on the way home. It's fantastic, I actually look forward to the drive.
I really like the way that new words are sounded out so that you really get the correct pronunciation, this is especially helpful when listening in the car .
I can't think of anything negative about this product, I really feel I am beginning to master this language and I don't want the lessons to end.

Service and delivery comments:

First of all I purchased the conversational package. I really liked it so then I bought Norwegian 1, but I was disappointed to find that the first half was just the conversational package repeated. It would have been better to know that up front. Or even better, make it build off the conversational. I felt a little cheated.
Suggestions: Please, please, PLEASE make Norwegian 2, 3, and beyond.

I speak five languages fluently but Norwegian was completely incomprehensible to me before I started the Pimsleur course. I was very impressed by how easy it was to acquire the basics quickly and to learn words instinctively that were nothing like English or any other language I know. It was also very helpful in acquiring a good accent and the rhythm of the language.

My only complaint is that the course has only 30 lessons. In order to get to the next level, I will have no alternative but to take lessons with a teacher, with the attendant drawbacks of that method. I strongly suggest that the course be extended to a full 120 lessons.

Otherwise, I would be more than happy to recommend the course and in fact have recommended it (for other languages) to other people.

I'm only on lesson 7 and I'm speaking in full sentences and developing my own conversations. I also take Norwegian classes at my local community center, but this program is a much faster way to learn. It's exciting when I can answer English questions with Norwegian responses. I do my 30 minute lessons while washing dishes every afternoon. I couldn't be happier with my progress. I would recommend this program to anyone.
