I bought Pimsleur because I needed a language for my kids to use in homeschool. We debated about which program to use, but I didn't want to waste money if the language was too hard or the program didn't work. Being able to buy Pimsleur (Chinese) a Phase(several units) at a time was an affordable and convenient way for us to try out the language. In comparison with other ways I've learned languages I am enjoying Pimsleur even more. We are learning to speak and understand right away in small digestible pieces. The only down side is there is no written language taught, however, if my kids can learn to speak the language I will be thrilled.

Pimsleur is really impressive. I don't think in the language but the responses I've learned from pimsleur do present when similar situations in real life occur.
I like and dislike the unscrippted responses, the ones where you have to compile your own sentences with newly learned words. Even though there is no formal teacher I do feel pressured to answer and do so correctly.
I listen to chinese pimsleur when driving usually, sometimes when shopping. I don't usually listen when I am working unless I've listened to the lesson before because it does require most of my attention.
I recently attendend a speech in chinese and while I knew not what the speaker was speaking about, I was able to understand certain words, like excuse me for one.
