Description

Includes 30 lessons and culture notes (16 hours) as MP3 download, plus PDF user's guide and culture notes

Japanese is spoken by about 130 million people, 122 million of whom are in Japan. There are also speakers in the Ryukyu Islands, Korea, Taiwan, parts of the United States, and Brazil. Pimsleur's Japanese teaches a polite level of Japanese, which is appropriate for use in most situations in Japan.

The Pimsleur® Method is scientifically proven to be your fastest route to nearnative fluency. Speak and understand Japanese in just thirty minutes a day. Japanese Phase 3 includes another 15 hours of spoken language practice and one additional hour of Culture Notes, and is designed is designed to be used after completion of Phases 1 and 2.

  • The beginning of Phase 3 offers you the chance to further expand your vocabulary and increase your fluency to an even higher level. In these lessons, you’ll gain experience participating in many informal and some formal discussions on practical, social, and semiprofessional topics. You’ll skillfully form longer, more complex sentences, and most importantly, you’ll find yourself being understood, even by native speakers unused to dealing with foreigners. Understanding a large amount of the conversations you hear, you’ll be able to join in effortlessly, confident of being understood.
  • In the next 10 lessons of Phase 3 your skills will show everincreasing mastery of the language. Speaking with grace and complete naturalness, you’ll enjoy fluid conversations on many new subjects. Delving deeper into cultural norms and situations, you’ll find yourself responding without thinking, and able to choose from a wide accumulation of vocabulary and structures.
  • In the final 10 lessons of Phase 3, you are nearing fluency with agile responses, and a naturalsounding, nearnative accent. You’re able to utilize the language in more subtle ways, and speak consistently using past, present, and future tenses appropriately. Self confidence soars as you experience the language and culture; no longer as a foreigner, but with a deepening insight into an expanding new world.

One hour of recorded Culture Notes are included at the end of Unit 30. These Notes are designed to provide you with some insight into Japanese culture. A Culture Notes booklet is also included in PDF format.

Comments about Japanese Phase 3, Units 1-30:

I listen to 1 unit twice a day, on the way to work and coming home from work, or once a day before bed if I didn't have work or if I simply couldn't find time to do it a second time.
Constant practice is great. I can remember every word I have learned through the course instantly just like I can in English.
The only drawback is, there is not enough vocabulary. Hopefully there will be a phase 4 soon just like there is an Italian phase 4 to teach vocabulary.
There is plenty of vocabulary for sure, but it would be nice for more.
If you don't pay attention, though, it will be boring.

Comments about Japanese Phase 3, Units 1-30:

I usually do a lesson every morning before work and then usually redo it in the evening unless that lesson was especially easy. It works great and doesn't take too much time this way. Phase 3 seems to be a bit more business focused (planning meetings, parties, etc)
I think Pimsleur is the next best thing to moving to Japan and spending your days practicing your Japanese on people. I highly recommend it!

Comments about Japanese Phase 3, Units 1-30:

You are continually hearing as well as speaking Japanese in a conversational setting.
It is also easy to use, insofar that it does not require an elaborate computer setup.
The Pimsleur app makes it easier to use and I like the replay again button ( go back 10 seconds)
I use this app on my tablet, so once again simple to use.
I will do a lesson first thing in the morning while I am still in bed. Same holds true in the evening.
Japanese pronunciation is not easy and unnatural for westerners. Even hearing the pronunciation many times, I have uncertainties as to whether I got it right ( many words sound very similar). As a result there is now a ? or uncertainty attached to a word or sounds and the consequence is a hesitation or pause whenever I hit this word or have to say it. I address this problem by making use of a Japanese dictionary.

Comments about Japanese Phase 3, Units 1-30:

I think the sales pitch is baloney. I work hard and spend a lot of time but I wouldn't feel comfortable being dumped in downtown Tokyo.

      Service and delivery comments:

I wish they would speak slower in the introductory conversations. Many times I listen over and over before I know exactly what the gist is. Provide the text of the MP3 if students desired.
