About Indonesian

- Standard Indonesian pronunciation, which is taught in this course, is based on the language of Jakarta.
- Indonesian is spoken by nearly 35 million people as a first language and by 150 million people as a second language. It is also spoken in Thailand, East Timor, Sri Lanka, Africa, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Netherlands, and the US.
- Besides Indonesian, there are over 300 local languages spoken in Indonesia, however, Indonesian is the primary language in education, government, business and communication.
- Written Indonesian uses the Latin alphabet (like English), there are 26 letters.
- New sixteen 30-minute lessons of spoken Indonesian language instruction (the first sixteen Units of Pimsleur’s 30-Unit Comprehensive Program), replaces the Compact Indonesian.
- Essential grammar and vocabulary that teach you greetings, numbers, how to order food and drink, deal with currency, scheduling a meal or meeting and to give and ask for directions. Learn to speak with near-native pronunciation skills.

Comments about Indonesian, Conversational:
This version of beginning Indonesian seems better than the last version of 10 lessons. One learns to ask for juice or tea instead of wine and beer!
Lots of practice in each new concept, though the pace is fast, have to turn the CD off to formulate the sentence if I want to get it myself before the teacher pronounces it. Or not, as I review and understand more.
I do love Pimsleur as the best way of learning a language for me!

Comments about Indonesian, Conversational:
It teachs a very practical vocabulary. The words and phrases help you to become friendly and functional in your travels.
It is very difficult to rip the CDs to place on a mp3, tablet, or smart phoone. Every CD has the same title so each subsequent CD overwrites the prvious one. Each CD has to be manually renamed. So painful.
It would be very helpful to have written words for each lesson. Seeing the word helps with the pronouncication and allows words to be reviewed outside of the lesson.

Comments about Indonesian, Conversational:
I love these DVDS. It was so easy for me to learn. I really was amazed how easy it was. I'm not that good at languages. I just wish that the next course did NOT include these dvds. I would like to buy only dvds that I don't have already.

Comments about Indonesian, Conversational:
I married my wife, an imigrant from Indonesia who harped on how hard it was to learn English. I learned Indonesian with your product in the car on the way to work with out her knowing it. I then suprised her family at a social occassion by speaking to everyone in their native language.
