Comments about Hungarian Phase 1, Units 1-30:

I have tried to learn Hungarian 3 times in the past using language training books and some "tourist" audio courses. I failed each time, mostly due to the difficulty of proper vowel pronunciation and understanding the structure of the language. What a difference using Pimsleur!! I have been successful at pronunciation, and am understanding more of the language structure just by using and hearing the language. The Pimsleur method is effective, easy, and enjoyable. I would highly recommend it for any language.

My only complaint is that there are only 30 Hungarian lessons, and no further courses are available. I've completed these lessons, and now I am straggling to continue to advance my skills using language books. However, these do not provide the "spoken" language, and they use the traditional memorization method of learning. I hope Pimsleur will develop advanced learning in Hungarian. I will be their first customer!!!!

Comments about Hungarian Phase 1, Units 1-30:

I had tried to learn Hungarian from traditional language books in the past, and failed miserably. I could never master the correct vowel sounds or intonations. The Pimsleur course has been just the opposite of my previous experience. By hearing the language and repeating words and conversations, and not reading until lesson 11, allowed me to concentrate on correct pronunciation and inflection. My Hungarian husband agrees that I'm doing well and am on my way to actually learning the language. Thank you Pimsleur!

        Comments about Hungarian, Comprehensive:

The course takes a challenging language and breaks it down into manageable, but not too easy, components. The last ten lessons were significantly more difficult than the first ten. However, it worked. Basic Hungarian can be learned in less than a month!

Really great introduction to this very interesting language that is so different from others.
Pronunciation is great and grammar is learned almost as an aside. Really enjoyable learning format, and very effective!
        Looking forward to Levels 2&3!

Comments about Hungarian Phase 1, Units 1-30:

This is my second Pimsleur course where I started from scratch (French being my first). Unlike French, Hungarian is a complex language with a very different sentence structure, yet the Pimsleur course makes it very intuitive and understandable. By the time you reach Lesson 30, you will have a good working vocabulary and a basic understanding of Hungarian grammar. This is true even if you start Lesson 1 not knowing a word of Hungarian!

I have Hungarian roots and feel it's important to have at least a working knowledge of the language. It has already come in handy in my travels. Now I'm just chomping at the bit for Level 2!

For half-hour long commutes, this is a perfect way to pass the time. Or just break up a lesson into two if that works better for you.

          More lessons, please!

In Lesson 20 and higher, there should be a little more recall from the early lessons.
