Comments about Hungarian Phase 1, Units 1-30:

Hi, my name is Glenn, and I use the Hungarian course every day and I repeat each Unit for a week (7 times total). I think overall it's a great product and I love learning new things. I think it's very simple and easy to use, and although it's memory based repetition, for me, it works. With that said, I do have a few suggestions: 1. Please make sure that words are properly pronounced in the foreign language...for example, in Hungarian an "S" is an "sh" sound, not an "S" as in English. It's pretty bad when the "Teacher" is saying "Budapest" which is the capital of Hungary as it sounds like in English, when in reality it should sound like "Budapesht." 2. I realize the pupil is supposed to repeat the "native speakers," but after the pupil learns the word or phrase, why repeat the native speakers? Why not say it BEFORE the native speakers? That way, the person learning knows he or she REALLY knows and UNDERSTANDS the word or phrase. Repeating things after the person has had a chance to learn it can cause the person to not really learn it for themselves, but instead just copy what the native speaker says. If this was the real world, you wouldn't always have the luxury of a translator...or a phrase book. So, please, add more time before the native speaker speaks up. I either have to pause the lesson or say the phrase very fast and barely get it out before the native speaker speaks up. 3. I realize there is different dialects, but when learning a new language, different dialects can throw a person off - dialects should be the same...Each word should sound EXACTLY the same with every native speaker in the Units. Dialects can be learned later once fundamentals are established. 4. Please make sure the correct term or word that is to be learned is the CORRECT way of saying something the first time it's said...for example...in Unit 1 the teacher says to say "English" you say "Angolul." So, you learn that, but then he throws a curveball...to say "English" it,s "Angol" and "in English" is "Angolul." So now the person has to relearn the word / phrase, and that can get irritating and confusing. And it can make the student think, "Gee, if the teacher got that word or phrase wrong the first time, how can I trust the teacher (or this program) to get other things right the first time?" So far, that's all I've noticed. Other than that, great product and I highly recommend it. I would TOTALLY get more levels of the Hungarian language if you ever came out with them! I think Hungarian is a beautiful, strong, and unique language! Thank you for making a wonderful product!
Sincerely, Glenn

Comments about Hungarian Phase 1, Units 1-30:

From the first lesson I felt this program is serious and professional. Made by people who understand the needs of those who want to learn a "second language".
For this reason I gave a friend a English course as a gift!!Congratulations!

Comments about Hungarian Phase 1, Units 1-30:

My wife is from Hungary, so I've been meaning to learn the language for some time now.
I listen to the lessons in my car on my way to and from work. I've learned a lot!
I started out with the 10-lesson Basic Hungarian. I was very happy with it, so when I was done, I purchased the entire 30-lesson set on MP3.
I was a bit disappointed, though, that the first 10 lessons were identical to the 10-lesson Basic Hungarian CD set. My impression in reading the product descriptions was that they were different.

Comments about Hungarian Phase 1, Units 1-30:

I use the product at least once a day, usually in the morning commute to work.(I drive) and have CD player in the dash.
While driving I have time for one lesson.
The background noise makes things a little difficult so I tend to review the lessons more than once.

Depending on the type of day (workload and fatigue) at work, I may review on the return trip at home.

I have studied Hungarian before and this program is head and shoulders above all the others.

I have made much better head way here than ever before. One thing that might a help is to start the read exercises as early as lesson 9.

The ability to park this program on my Mac Book Pro and my Ipod is terrific. Occasionaly I plug it in when I go to bed -- and go to sleep with it.

I Like the fact that you have at least two voices on the CDs-- gives a better understanding of the slight variations in pronunciation.

Comments about Hungarian Phase 1, Units 1-30:

I have tried to learn Hungarian 3 times in the past using language training books and some "tourist" audio courses. I failed each time, mostly due to the difficulty of proper vowel pronunciation and understanding the structure of the language. What a difference using Pimsleur!! I have been successful at pronunciation, and am understanding more of the language structure just by using and hearing the language. The Pimsleur method is effective, easy, and enjoyable. I would highly recommend it for any language.

My only complaint is that there are only 30 Hungarian lessons, and no further courses are available. I've completed these lessons, and now I am straggling to continue to advance my skills using language books. However, these do not provide the "spoken" language, and they use the traditional memorization method of learning. I hope Pimsleur will develop advanced learning in Hungarian. I will be their first customer!!!!
